I know folks that have it set up on a 2nd gen. However, most shops will not install it since it's not CARB EO approved in CA. If you do get one installed for offroad use, just be warned it could get flagged during your bi-annual (every 2 years) smog check. Some folks have them painted black or have a "skid" made to hide it.

Cruiser Brothers who is the distributor in the US won't ship to CA address, but they will ship to a shop just depends if they will install it or not. Some recent shops that did no longer will.

I was looking at installing one myself and may still rally to do it but hit some hurdles. We had a 20% code my brother won at a raffle, and they would not sell us one in CA.

Damn CARB...it retains all the canisters and fill tubes that the OEM uses.

Yeah, that doesn't matter. They consider the tank itself as part of the CARB EO. Even though its all in the same place and same parts its still different tank.

If I talk to my folks who I know who have it on their 2nd gens ill comment unless we get some. It does use the same fuel pump so it likely wont be any different then what you have today. Reading I cant recall what they said when I was digging into it.

I have one, bought probably at the same time @HomerTaco bought his. It was an early generation LRA tank and the only issues I have still is the fuel will burp out at the nozzle during refueling operations. I'll only lose maybe 1 cup of fuel if that at every refuel. The fuel gage is accurate enough to let you know that you're low on fuel but the same scale isn't the same. Let me rephrase, it takes me like 120 miles on the odometer to get the needle to start moving down the 'F' on the fuel gage and when it gets down to the 'E' with the light illuminated, I could probably get another 100 or so miles on the tank but my cornhole would be tight rolling into a gas station. It takes roughly 34 gallons and some change to fill up completely so I would suggest tracking your gas mileage on using your Trip meter. I get on average 12 mpg around town so I can squeeze a little north of 400 miles on the tank. The E light comes on at roughly 320 miles, giving me about 88 more miles with the E light on. Mind you that the bed is unloaded so camping trips are a little less MPG than that.

Install sucked. I took the bed of the truck off to make it easier. The middle angle bracket on the drivers side was a huge PITA to install. Spent a lot of time finagling the tank up and down and twisting it around to get it to go in while getting maybe 1/8 turns. I broke the weld nut off in my struggle so had to give the reach around to end all reach arounds to get the nut on the bolt. I blame the engineers for not designing a better solution but it's in now. If I ever had to drop the tank for any reason, I'd pull the bed and go in the top. That's how much of a PITA it was. Had to go buy a second floor jack to maneuver the tank around.

There was a change to the tank in the recent past to address the fuel cutoff causing the fuel to burp out during fueling ops. Cruiser Brothers offered to send out whatever fix they came up with along with a small rebate to cover the cost of the install but I never took them up on the offer since I couldn't find the receipt. I thought I bought it during a group buy but the conversation was lost when TW changed servers and board upgrades. Oh well.

To answer your question about usability, it's used daily. Handled everything the road and trails have thrown at it. Dings and dents require spot treatment for rust prevention. Rust reformer and rattle can black. I hope that helps.

    this is nuts
More fuel storage doesn’t worsen emissions

why not get the JDFab one
    also cheaper

Why not both and use the JDFab as the transfer tank? From the looks of the picture, the stock tank is still suspended in that photo. The LRA doesn't go past the rear axle and it looks like the JDFab doesn't go forward of the rear axle. I haven't researched it but it looks like it is a transfer tank.

Edit: Yup, I just looked. It's an Aux tank. Just imagine, 34 Gal LRA tank and a 31 Gal fuel cell. 65 total Gal of fuel just might have to reclassify the truck as a tanker at that point. With my MPG, that's roughly 780 miles to empty. If you have a stock truck that's 1235 miles to empty. My spare tire doesn't fit under the bed anymore so maybe I just might look into that when it comes back on the market.

I just checked it out. Can be used as either primary or transfer.

Neat option but also currently out of stock as per the website.
