The raptor is an amazing purpose-built truck. Unfortunately, I doubt more than 1/4 of the buyers will actually take advantage of the engineering behind it....

Then again, with all of the potholes in these Massachusetts roads right now, I could use some nice long travel shocks :D.

Great truck really. Ford left a bad taste in my mouth with my 1994 explorer, but my neighbors and friends are having great luck with their 2004+ models (Explorer, F150, F250). Regardless, it's nice to see a company focusing engineering on something other than straight line fun. I think this may be a game-changing truck really. A substantial engineering feat.

I'd just hate to have to replace one of those Fox shocks, or 35" tires down the road... (Although I hear the shocks have a 10 year warranty)

Yea i like how Ford calls it "Long Travel", that is total BS, 11.5" in the front and 14" in the back that is just mid travel. Don't get me wrong its really good mid travel though, just not long travel. my buddy is running a btf mid travel on his ranger and he cycles 13" in the front. In the back with Deaver pack and Dickson brother bead cage he is getting 15.5" of travel.

Right... But what ford is giving you is a fully warrantied, ready-to-run baja races truck right out of the box. I would agree you can build something more extreme on your own ( and it'd be more fun/rewarding getting there). But, as soon as you start modifying, you risk losing your warranty, you risk breaking laws (some states being more strict than others about modifications), and you risk resale value. They're giving you a reasonably priced machine that can do quite a bit of off-roading. I mean, I've been out of the loop for a few years, but I'd be hard pressed to name a factory produced street legal vehicle anywhere near what ford is offering.

I wasn't comparing the taco to the stang. Just stating that my old Ford treated me very well and was far from junk.
I test drove the whole specturm of mid-size trucks. It's obvious what I chose. My tacoma does all that I ask of it, but understand that it isn't the biggest, baddest, fastest, strongest, est, est, est truck in the world.
There might be a truck out there that can do something better:eek: .
It might not even be a Toyota.
I love my Tocoma, but it's not the "be all, end all" of trucks.

Let's be honest, what has Toyota given us for a "hopped up" full size truck? http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/general-automotive/22935-tundra-rock-warrior.html

    Yep, pretty gay.

Give credit where credit is due. For a stock truck, the Raptor is tits.

Damn.....you beat me to my post. Anyways, the Raptor is one bad machine. I touched it this past weekend at the State Fair. I have to be honest and say that I actually want to test drive one. I just got off of Ford's website and while I would never even consider owing a Ford Product......this Raptor is something that Toyota should consider. Imagine if the Tacoma would come in a Baja edition......like the Raptor.

Come on guys......you know you want one. (Or at least would like to test drive it.) I think I'm going to do it this weekend just for fun.

I like the idea behind the Raptor and think that Ford did a pretty good job on it. Unfortunately we have a shortage of desert here in Pennsylvania and the Raptor is too big for most of the trails that I would be on. If Ford got their stuff together, re-designed the Ranger and let SVT have their way with it, I would consider it.

The front end looks way better than the standard D.R.O.F. F150 but the interior is just plain bad (What were they thinking) Toyota has nothing to worry about from that truck.

My only problem is that if i was going to pay that much for an off roading rig, I would not pay that much for a stock vehicle. I would buy a base taco or something similar and mod it myself. I donot want a rig fresh off the assembly line, I would rather build it into something unique

That's awsome that you have the knowledge and skill to do such. Many people don't. For them a truck like this is the answer.

We both know plenty of "car guy's" that don't have a clue how to turn a wrench. Their idea of modding their truck is to drop it off at the shop and pick it back up with everything installed. I have too much pride and not enough $$ to do that. I don't think there is a car/truck/bike/atv/ made that I wouldn't want to mod. :D

Hahaha. I'm the same way. The problem is: I'm not a good mechanic... And I don't have much of a "Garage".

I've done all of the work on my jeep by myself (Several lift kits: Incl: Control arms, trackbars). The problem is the damn thing keeps breaking!

My next truck I'm keeping stock (minus little things like tonneau covers).

Some of you people are killing me.

If I needed a full size truck to tow and haul with, F-150 would be the first one on my list.

I don't tow much, and I rarely haul more than 1000lbs. I don't need a full-size truck to tow and haul with. I do drive on a lot of gnarly shit getting to and from rock climbing areas. I needed a capable offroad truck. I bought a Tacoma.

Just because it's not made by Toyota doesn't mean it's horrible.

seriously. i love the tacoma it will last forever and will stay consistent, and just look great. i love the tundra too if it isnt bone stock and looks like a depressed cow.

but i love other trucks too. for the power, sound, i drove around a used 1500 8.0L silverado for a few months. and seriously? that truck was so fun/fast/loud i really do miss the power but i had almost monthly repairs.if i got it new maybe that would have been different but i didnt, so i don't like to bash on other companies just because i dont have that brand. most trucks if taken care of will last a long time too.
