bummer....age is true killer of autos, not miles.....I figure I have 2-3 years left before my truck starts having issues like AC probs
10 years is usually when vehicles start to show their age

100% percent of the issues that came with my truck are cosmetic. Paint was shit, undercarriage was nasty, suspension was worn, etc. Now, she's basically brand new, and just hit 53,000 miles in January.

I also just noticed you are in texas...so you use AC a lot more than me....I rarely use AC, only when I go to Cali.

Oregon, specifically where I live, is more cold than hot on a yearly basis. We usually only have 10 days of hot weather per year that warrants using AC. so maybe this is why my AC is still good?, I rarely use it!

    Great write up!

I say keep it. And push your oil changes to 7,500. I would even say 10K . With the amount of miles you drive that could save a good chunk of cash in the long run.

I buy the cheapest oil in the proper viscosity I can find. I have 174k miles on my 2010. Has been a great vehicle. I've done a/t flush, coolant flush and the other main services myself. This forum has a lot of great threads that walk you through them.

Minimal if any burn off and no oil required to be added between changes. As you can see I dont believe that any one brand of oil will greatly affect an engine's life cycle.

I have never heard of engine failure caused by the wrong brand of oil. The "feeling" you get after an oil change of your truck running better is placebo effect.

Im not sure about the math but if you are not burning oil I wouldn't say it is bad to not change it frequently on a really high mileage vehicle that is well seasoned. I would not wait until 12k but to each their own . I am going to send some oil off though because that sounds cool. Plus I have an 05 in the supposed head gasket failure range.

Just because you burn .5 quarts in the first 5,000 miles doesn't really mean you burn .5 every 5,000 miles.

Look up to all you high mile folks. Keep em on the road!

I thought fully synthetic oil was supposed to last longer than the normal 3k. 5-10 i always thought.

Do you burn a lot of oil on the 900 mile trips?

That would be based on the analysis of my tacomas oil performed by Blackstone laboratories. That is their recommendation.

Aren't you just a little too big for your britches bucko? Lol

You may not always be right lmao
