The fuel pump is only covered if Toyota determines it is covered. What you read, a friend told you or a dealership service advisor said really means nothing.

In the meantime learn how to communicate coherently. If you speak to people the way you wrote this post then I’m not surprised you’ve had no luck.

okay first of all i am sorry that it was such a long tread. and to the person who said that i need learn how to communicate coherently and that if I speak to people the way i wrote that your are not surprised that i have no luck?????? first of all i do not speak to people like that: let me ask you how you would feel if you were in my shoes? just shrug your shoulders and say oh well. i wrote that way because i cannot talk to them that way. they are giving me a run around and trying to say its one thing after another. i am sure if you have had the problems and had spent the money i have so far then you would just thank them for trying. and the reason ,y thread is so long is because i wanted to explain everything that was done or not done so you would understand what i am up against. but i am sure if they gave you a quote for 7000.00 just for parts never mind labor on a truck that has such low milage you would just smile and thank them. i want to thank you three who replied with your nice comments. maybe you work for toyota. and to the person who said bring it to a honest garage. i did that and he said it was the fuel pump and that toyota said it was covered. i esih i could move on but my truck is still not fixed and i cannot drive it. but I am sure you guys would just take it on the chin and thank the service department for a good job.

    Can anyone do a recap?

I have a 2017 also, just looked up the VIN and luckily it’s not in the recall but there’s certainly were others that are. OP should go by that link posted by whatstcp and go to a real dealer.

She took to a mechanic and he said the fuel pump is bad... (known problem ) . She had it towed to dealer that is giving her the run around on warranty.
This isn't a warranty issue, it's a recall. Which trumps warranty

I dont think 2017 was part of the Fuel Pump recall, unless it was sometime towards the end of the model year.

Can't say for sure on that, but the high pressure fuel pump has been a known issue since 2018 models, and at least late 2017's

It's not subject to a recall if her VIN is not within the range.

However, it is not unheard of to calmly escalate a case by sound reasoning, i.e.: "Look Toyota has replaced THOUSANDS of defective fuel pumps. You didn't know they were bad when you installed them, how can I have faith that you have effectively isolated every single one of the defect fuel pumps that were in all the Toyotas sold?"

It was a summary. The fuel pump was a recall, as it can cause a fire in the engine bay. Fire doesn't happen often, but can.

Look at my post count. I have been here a long time and have read about many, many, many know issues with the 2017. Yes, I also own a 2017 and dealerships and toyota suck Ron Jeremy's dick.

    She could check her VIN
She doesn’t need to take the word of some person on the phone.

It's a 2017 model year. Pretty sure fuel pump falls under the 3 year/36k mile warranty.

If your VIN isn't part of the fuel pump recall, then you might be SOL. Really sucks someone at the dealer promised you it would be covered under warranty or recall. That dealer should offer you a discount at least.

And for the 3rd gen fan boys, 2nd gen Taco is more reliable. Prove me wrong.

Absolutely...but until then it's pure speculation. Diatribes tend to be about venting and have little to do with actually seeking counsel.

They will either help, or they won’t.

I was in a similar situation with the leaf spring recall.
Letter after letter saying my truck was recalled for the springs.
Took it in, they inspected it, said they call me when the springs arrived.
Never heard from them. I called them, only to be told “mine wasn’t on the recall”.

It was, I had proof, the service advisor just didn’t know what she was doing.
It all worked out in the end….. They even gave me a car to drive while mine was in for repair.
