Right, the PDF in Post #14 shows that 2017's manufactured in September were, which was probably pretty much the end of the model year production.

OP, if you have it in writing from the dealership that they will replace the fuel pump at no cost to you, then keep your mouth shut until they are done with the work and you go pick it up. Seems like you kept calling them until somebody finally told you what you didn’t want to hear, and now, drama.

@fredfarckle Welcome to Tacoma World and sorry for what brought you here.

    1) If you want help, please start from beginning and tell us what symptoms led you to take it to the dealer. Maybe its the fuel pump, maybe not, maybe more than the pump. Tell us what problems you were having and maybe someone here can tell if it sounds like a bad fuel pump. That is best help you'll get from this site.
    2) What was the first diagnosis that created the $6020 estimate? What did they replace that added up to the first $1030?
    3) Good for you to get a 2nd opinion.
    4) Look up the VIN in the recall page, report back and maybe TacomaWorld can give you useful advice when we know useful details.

    Maybe. But it’s common knowledge 3rd gen > 2nd gen = 1st gen.

It says 2nd gens are equal to 1st gen and 3rd gen is better. Pretty simple.

    Also known as a joke.

And for that matter, 1st gens we’re even more reliable then either of them. But 3-2-1=0 and so the SR5’s had them all beat with their 22r’s and 2 solid axles.

Is it still stock no lifts etc? Reason is most high mileage mostly problem free trucks usually are the ones haven’t been heavily modded and has been left OG .

I dont think 2017 was under the fuel pump recall. It has 22,000 miles but the 5 year warranty is up or actually all the warranties are expired at that point, they wont cover it. Should have just had that shop that initially found the issue change out the fuel pump for you.

“Toyota Tacoma nightmare” is an easy hook for something that boils down to check online for recalls and choose an honest service option. And, maybe proper spacing and punctuate. You seem sincere, so sorry you have to deal w this btw.

One unintended consequence of your red meat title was creating edition #1,465,768 of the ongoing debate, “what gen is less reliable?”, which is only slightly more interesting than “which Toyota rusts less”, and of course makes me wish the gen 4 would get here sooner to open up a whole new era of peoples complaints

a “nightmare” over a fuel pump on a 6 year old truck? Pay someone $500 to fix it and call it a day. Old shit breaks. What’s the big deal
