I have a stock 15' DCSB Off Road and I'm only getting around 13 in town. :( Not sure what the deal is. Mostly drive it to work and for errands.

I slowed down on my third tank and kept it around 60 and got 19.9. almost 4 mpg better driving slower. Another reason I hate this six speed in the low gearing.

I do better in day to day driving. About 1/2 of my commute is a long stretch of 55-60 mph and I tend to stay between 19-20 mpg. Its better than my Nissan Frontier did but I really thought the 2wd Tacoma might do a little better. It does worse on the highway though. Last trip I took I drove 80 mph and got just under 18mpg. My Frontier got 20-21 mpg on the same drive. I don't why we don't have a better overdrive gear.

My wife has a 4wd manual FJ Cruiser. The gearing kills her daily mpg, I think she gets 15-16 mpg around town.

I just got a scan gauge II and it's pretty cool. I think the immediate feedback on mpg versus your average for the trip helps a lot. I keep trying to make my MPG higher than the trip average and see how high I can get it. It's kind of fun but frustrating in traffic or when you catch some red lights. Even without it though I was able to reach ~20 mpgs most of the time.

2013 TRD Off Road. 6 Speed Manual Transmission. 34,xxx miles,
I run premium mainly because it helps with pinging/tacoma tick.

Maxed out towing 2 cords wood with fully loaded 6' bed 14 MPG
    Average mixed driving 19 MPG
    Average HWY driving 21 MPG
Best tank ever - all HWY fresh fluids going 55 MPH was 24 MPG.

Owning an UltraGauge has completely changed my driving habits. I shift at 2k RPM and generally drive around like a grandma. People HATE it.

Mine too, although I only put 3 tanks of gas through it so far and I drive like an old man. See how much it decreases when the winter blend gas is back. I have the manual 4x4. Coming from full size GMC this think is a pleasure to drive.

Last summer I averaged about 17mpg on 265/70/16 standard load worn down winter tires (Dean Wintercat) - about 30% tread at 35 psi. I recently switched to 255/85/16 load E (Toyo M55) that are about 60% tread at 38 psi. These last few tanks have been in the low 18mpgs. I drive moslty rural roads, so not much stop and go. The amount of weight the truck carries has not changed. I think the increased rolling inertia and harder rubber compound are working in my favor here. The skinnier tires may also have a smaller contact patch, but I don't know that. These tires work really well in mud and snow too.

If I drive like an idiot I get about 18. If I take it easy and keep the rpms to 1500 while accelerating I can get close to 20 (also means not going higher than 60mph).

Im getting about 12 mpg in the city (fairly heavy start/stop).

I have cooper AT3's but thats about it, not a ton of mods or extra weight. at first i was writing it off to jut being "a truck" but it seems like this is a lot worse than most people are getting. I don't drive aggressively at all (under 2k) .... kinda wondering if there is something I need to look into (grabbing brakes or O2 sensors or something)

Interesting information from fuelly.com. To keep comparison fair, all were 2015 V6's. With this preliminary data it looks like the Tacoma is holding is own with the competition. More data is needed from the other brands to get a really true picture.
I am happy with my new Tacoma even with 16 mpg on my first fill up.

Toyota Tacoma 17.34 mpg (66 trucks)
Nissan Frontier 17.44 mpg (16 trucks)
Chevy Colorado 18.62 mpg (17 trucks)
    Ford F150 15.96 mpg (16 trucks)

Put 6,100 miles on it the first 2.5 weeks and now at 7000 miles after a month. Done road tripping for a while. Best tank, 23.6 mpg, worst 18.5 (didn't like that gas - tried it twice with same results, which were highway miles, and switched back), average 21.3. Even urban driving I'm still getting 21mpg overall.

My last three tanks, not road trips, were 20.5, 21.9, 21.7.

I had a 2013, same TRD Sport DCSB 4x4, that averaged 19.5ish. This one is getting better, don't know why.

Lowest I've gotten is 10 mpg running about 100 down a toll road in Dallas. I felt pretty good about that. Use up the gasoline glut.

2011 4.0, DCSB, auto. "Average driving", (some in town, some highway) I get from 18.5 to 20. We recently took a long highway trip. On the outbound leg, I ran 75 and 80 MPH, cruise set most of the way. Averaged 21.3. On the way home, I kept the speed down a bit, mostly in the 65 to 70 mph range, cruise set. Average was 23.8.

I drive like a grampa BTW.

2007 TRD 4X4 Double cab. Running 265/65/16 AT tires currently. I've had 245/75/16's and 265/70/16's on it with no noticeable difference. My normal driving around town and on rural country roads is 17-18 mpg. On most road trips I always seem to get exactly 19.5. Towing a camper, 15ishmpg. If I drive very carefully I've gotten as much as 20.5.
