    Justed traded in 2008 Prerunner v6 2x4 auto @20.7 on highway for 2011 4x4 manual 6 speed v6 2500 miles on it getting 17.5 on highway. Should have went back with auto. What was I thinking?

    I used to think with 6 speed I'd save more gas but every time I check it seems like the guys with autos are having the better deal. Guys with the full 4 doors and long bed are getting better millage than me lol. I should trade somebody

    Just filled up yesterday took 17.5 gal. and got 15.9 all city driving. That's up from my last tank. This time I filled up with 87 octane and not the 93 octane 10% blend will see if the gas makes a difference.

    i've got 10000 miles on my 2010 prerunner sport and get 19-19.5 on a regular basis. very pleased. traded in 2007 tundra OR getting 13.5

    I get on average 18.5...Hell my 97 F-250 with a 460 got 15 towing or not! I'm going back to full size soon.

    A little of this and a little of that.
    My first fill up and my mpg was 17.6, about where I thought it would be. My wifes V8 4Runner gets 19 mpg and she only drives 7 miles each way to work. Oh I wish I could have gotten that 4.7 V8 in this Tacoma.

    I agree with you!!! I live in cleveland and my milage dropps a couple miles per gallon in the winter with the dencer air. This year I want to do a warm air intake for the winter. Not compleat yet, but I did make a grill cover for the upper and lower, to keep the cold out. Just need to get a shorter hose so I can suck air in from the engine bay.

    I have the URD intake I haven't noticed any difference, although that's mostly due to me driving like an a$$ hole, and having a heavy right foot as of late.

    last fill up. 300 mile club baby!!! (4.0 6spd) gps and odo are off because of 265/70s. they were dead on with 265/65s. 310 miles, 18.5 gallon fill up. 16.76 mpg. i've had this truck for a year and a half and this is the first time (that i've checked) that i made it over 300 miles on one tank. i do a lot of stop and go as well as towing though. was pretty excited.

    The first couple of tanks after getting the larger tires were 1 mpg less than I would have gotten before. Since the 265/75-16 tires actually make the speedometer read true, my past year on the Rugged Fails were all really 1 mpg too high!

    However, my last tank was a combined city/hwy. tank and I got 16.9 mpg, which is what I would have expected with the Rugged Fails.

    I know this is an old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one.

    Is there a big difference between the Auto and the Manual trans when it comes to MPG. Toyota list the Manual at 14 and 18, and the Auto at 16 and 20.

    Are the people with the V6 and 6 speed who are getting crappy MPG, is that because you are driving hard or should I really expect that kind of mileage?

    Auto's have differant rear diff gearing, thats why they get better milage than the manuals. Unfortunatly with us 6 spd guys 6th gear is almost pointless. Its not a proper overdrive gear like it should be.

    WIth my lifted, supercharged, CAI, and CB exhaust, truck I see number like 20-24 on the freeway doing 60-65 and in town I get 14-16. My engine is just starting to loosen up so hopefully it gets better. Also, if I can find non ethanol gas I get better milage. I cant find non ethanol down here in Arizona but I can when I am up in Washington and Oregon. It does make a big difference. That is all with high octane, I have to run that because of the supercharger.

    its funny to read this stuff and to think of the conversation i had this morning about gas dropping below 3.40 this week and everyone being excited..
    in moderate to heavy traffic on my 45 mile drive to work i average about 19mpg with just over 3k on the clock.. i read a lot of you guys are getting better gas mileage after the first 10k??

    With the 2.7 4x4 mt mileage improved at around 10,000 (getting about 24 all around driving now, the sticker said I should get 18/20. It seems logical the 6cyl would have about the same break in period.

    I was expecting highway mpg around town (just how I drive) and a little better on highway. It ends up I get best mpg keeping it under 70.

    I was driving with aired up tires (34 vs 30) but put back to specs since the ride is a good deal nicer with the correct psi. Maybe I lost 1mpg using the correct psi; I think i am safer at the right air and I am pretty sure my tires will wear better.

    There is a way to calculate the diameter of the tires and use that ratio to compensate for the difference in your mileage numbers. The easiest way IMHO is to compare your odometer reading with the mile markers on the highway. For example, if your odometer reads 95 miles when you have traveled 100 miles according to the mile markers, your actual gas mileage is 100 divided by 95 times the mileage you calculated using the odometer and the gas pump reading. That compensates for any tire size changes and also eliminates the error in the odometer. My odometer is not exactly on the mark, and I suspect many others are not, either.
