    :(
I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma with about 150,000 miles. I know it is out of warranty. However there is a recall on the 2005 Tacoma for the spiral cable. My air bag light is on, my cruise control does not work and the horn is also broken. I was excited about this being a recall because the part to fix this is going to cost about $500. I searched Toyota's website to find out if my truck was in the recall and for some reason my truck is NOT included. I called customer service and I was pretty much told that even though the 2005 - 2009 is in a recall, mine is not a part of that particular recall. There are countless members here that have the exact same truck (model & year) as me and they have the same issue and were included in the recall. The customer service representative pretty much told me that I was S.O.L. and good luck on that problem. They said that the recall was based on where and when the truck was made to be included in the recall. Well it looks like they missed a few standards for this recall because now I am out $500 for something that was Toyota's fault.

    Toyota's Recall Information.

Has anyone had this spiral cable/ clock spring go bad and NOT had it fix through the recall? I am trying to get Toyota to fix mine under the recall and I feel that if enough members here have had this issue then they might look at it.

If you have a facebook page then I pretty much wrote this same thing on there. After all, social media has been know to get things done.

Here is the link to my facebook post. Feel free to comment there if you have the same problem as I do.

If this is too much for you guys to read just skip the first paragraph. The question is in the 2nd paragraph.

Did you get anything in the mail about the recall or did you just look it up? I got a notice about it in the mail, and it just so happened that the light stayed on a few weeks later. Took it in, no questions asked.

Nothing in the mail. After the airbag light came on I researched it a bit here and found out about all this recall nonsense. If you type your VIN# into the spot on this web page on Toyota's site then it will tell you if there is a recall on your vehicle.

I wouldn't mind doing this myself. But the damn part is $245 and I have a hard time messing with the airbag electronics. Besides, there is an obvious problem here because they recalled my model year yet somehow missed mine in it. I'm just hoping that there are others here with this problem of not being included.

If you don't mind, inbox me your VIN# and I'll look it up to see if it's affected by a new spiral cable recall that will be coming out for several different model Toyotas in the near future. I'm at work right now, so it'll take a few seconds to load up the VIN#.

I dont mind doing that. But what do you do for a living that makes you know about a recall that is about to happen? I figured Toyota would have mentioned it to me when I spoke with them yesterday.

Toyota did a partial goodwill repair on my '11 (I had to dish out $100).

Yeah. $100 wouldn't be too bad. I brought it to my local dealer and they said my truck is not part of the recall... which I already knew but wanted to see what would happen.

What exactly is a partial repair?

Originally, I received a letter stating that My '08 was included in the recall and to wait for another letter stating that the parts were in. I never received the second letter so, finally, I went to the dealership and was told that I was not included in the recall. How's that for you?????

Where I am up here in Canada, the dealership told me to pound sand when my spiral cable broke. But they would sell me one for $625 bucks. Not including labour. Just for the spiral cable! My calls to Toyota Canada also got me nowhere. Corporate Toyota sucks donkey balls. I ordered the spiral cable from eBay and put the damn thing in myself.

And by the way, my wife's honda civic had an airbag light on like 2 years and 80,000 kms over its warranty period and they covered over 800 dollars in parts and labour without a recall. Did I mention corporate Toyota sucks?

I never received anything in the mail. I wish I would have though. This sucks. Click the Facebook link in the op and see what they said. Pretty ridiculous.

I typed my VIN into that web site and the spiral cable safety recall came up. It looks like I am supposed to have this done. I didn't recieve any mail from Toyota or any indication about recalls from my dealer the last time I took it in for a service. No suprise though since I am not the original owner.

It also said that I have the floor mat accelerator pedal safety recall so I am not taking my truck in for them to butcher the gas pedal.

I'll wait on the spiral cable thing until the air bag light actually comes on. Nothing yet and my Tacoma has about 185,000 miles on it.

I have an ’07. last year not long after it came out i went and got an oil change and they went ahead and did it. My air bag light was not on or anything. When they came and told me truck was ready they said they did it, it was on the sheet and before that i was even wondering why it was taking so long. i think i was there a little over 1h.

This is stupid. I have the same truck as you guys and some have the recall and some don't. Yet all have the issue. Hell, some have the recall and have no issue with the cable at all!! haha.

It sounds like Toyota has determined that the issue lies with a specific supplier or plant. So until Toyota determines it is a problem with all suppliers or all plants then it sucks but you may have to fix it yourself. Save the receipt though. You may qualify for a reimbursement.

My 05 is covered under the recall...the airbag light is on but other than that... not 1 issue.

I received a letter from Toyota informing me of all this.

Have you tried talking to a service advisor? When mine originally went bad I was at 55xxx miles. Its considered part of the SRS. Originally they were saying it wasnt and didnt want to cover it under the warranty. SRS is covered to 60k. Dealer called me back a couple days later saying that I was right and they would do the work.

I think since it is under the SRS, you might have a fighting chance.
