I honestly more then likely wouldnt buy one anyways if they even did come out with one state side. EPA regulations have ruined reliability and the benefits of heavy duty, and small or mid size diesels for the most part. I work in the industry and the def systems and egr systems alone give enough problems to keep food in my fridge. And thats every brand above wether it be detroit , cummins , paccar , volvo , vw , isuzu , and everything in between. Maybe if the epa regulations change we would see a incrase in manufactors with reliable and beneficial diesel options. But i dont see it happening EPA and gas/fuel is a major money racket for the government.

Just seen this the other day saying the 2018 may get a diesel earlier than expected . You figured Mother Toyota cheaped out on the 3.5 highlander powered tacoma for 16/17 .
If they were on a budget just make a few changes to the Hilux , the biggest will be adding a DEF system which totally sucks then we have t reverse engineer to remove it .
Those systems work great right off the dealer floor but down the road their nothing but problems , I have removed systems in Duramax and Cummins engines lot less agrivation .

Diesels stink. Literally! Can smell a stinky, Diesel Ford or Dodge p/up from 1/2 a mile away when behind one. Sitting near one at a stoplight is just gaggy.:annoyed:

I'll believe that when I see it (and if it's legit -which it won't be- I'll be selling my taco).

There's no way they can meet import requirements without an absurd amount of initial investment (talking in the $10M ball park best case). They may even get some in, but if they're legit is another question.

What I'm guessing they're going to do is build a "new" drivetrain/powertrain under the LC body and sell as a pre-made kit car in some way. They'll be at icon4x4 pricing at that point.

    OA

Edit: the more I browse that site the more it looks like a sketchy kickstarter page. Better off waiting for a 25 year old LC to import.

This whole thread is an exercise is vetting LEGIT news vs fake stuff. Not referring to any specific user here - just a general note to think before we buy into an article

Sounds perfect to me. In all seriousness, I would buy a brand new hilux in a heartbeat if I didn't already have the Taco. Anybody else?

I forgot to mention mine has AC, but some other Hilux models don't.

the only sure fire way to make this believable, ask a Toyota Master Tech when he is going for diesel engine training. otherwise its all junk talk since NOT one Toyota tech in the USA can even service a diesel.

I was talking to the dealer manager when I got my Pro maintenanced and he said "Late 2017-Early 2018 they should be releasing the diesel Tundra. It will be using the 6.7L cummins from the dodge and titan. Toyota will be supplying everything else, such as tranny and other driveline components."

Yeah I read trough it didn't sound legit. A friend said that they would go check them out at SEMA if they do show up.
