Well who's to say the 16 is going to be better or is there proof of something that was changed?

I thought in the 16 they used a stronger metal in the frame, but I may be mistaken, so yeah, only time and salt/brine will tell.

Nope. No backlash. They saw that the first gen frame rot had no impact on sales. There was no competition in this segment.

If you look at lease residuals that gives you a great idea, how none of these really matter.

Though now the Ridgeline/GMC Twins upcoming ranger there is some competition, but the Tacoma buyer hardly ever cross shops with anything else.

I haven't done a thing but rinse it but I'm also in Fl. Did the same with my 1st gen and never had any problems for the 10 years I had it. There's a good chance we're moving to NY in a few months. I may coat it if I end up keeping it.

My advice to 11-15 owners is "My bet nothing, but they will also have to be taken to court to do the right thing. I would undercoat your frame in the meantime, just to cover yourself + frame".

You can say what you want about lawyers and I'm no fan, but I bet that mother is glad she had a lawyer against Toyota. If it wasn't for lawyers like the one that filed that class-action lawsuit, large companies with billion of dollars like Toyota would make a defective product like these frames , not be held accountable, and consumers would have zero recourse for compensation.

I wasn't saying anything about lawyers. I am one. I used to be the one fighting your mom's lawyer, many moons ago. I saw the light, and now fight other things to make more money

I knew you were a lawyer and didn't mean anything against your posting, but just trying to explain that as bad as some lawyers are, they do have an important purpose in our society, with justice for ALL. Like as bad as are our democracy is, it's better than anything else that mankind has to offer.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
This lady needs to Lawyer Up ASAP. I had new tires installed on my S2000 by a honda dealer a few years ago. They scratched all 4 rims with their tire machine, and admitted to it. They offered to refinish the rims (not satisfactory on a mint m10 year old car), which were perfect before they damaged them (no curb marks, no corrosion, etc.). Got the run around from the dealer GM, corporate Honda (what a joke), and decided to sue them for 4 new wheels. Once the owner of the dealership for a subpoena from the Sheriff, everything magically changed. I got paid for 4 new wheels, court fees, costs to have the wheels re-installed and balanced elsewhere, etc. totaling around $3k USD.

Don't settle for this garbage from anyone. Its why I have a Taco and not a Ridgeline now.

I've seen the same statement tossed around on this forum and automotive news sites, maybe even the Tacoma brochure. I'm curious what the full extent of the high strength steel incorporation into the frame actually is. All I've read paints it like the high strength steel isn't the entirety of the frame but rather important structural components or certain parts like a-arms and such.

The same thing happened to my rims at an independant mechanic and didn't notice till about a week later. I never said anything to them, but don't get my tires rotated there again and do most of my maintenance myself now.

It's really mind boggling that after 95-00, 01-04 and 05....?, that Toyota still has this defect in their frames. With all the money they have spent, the hassle they and consumers have to go through to replace a frame + CRC spray on others, as well as the hit their reputation takes, they wouldn't get some top metallurgist to design a frame better.

Its all math. You do the numbers, and see what your profit is + risk aversion = how much you pay out in claims vs profit.

Insurance companies and businesses do it all the time.

My understanding is Dana sold their structural division to Metalsa in 2010, so 2011 frames were all made by Metalsa.
