I only skimmed over the post, is the " all weather " the one that came with the Tacoma, or is that th rubber ribbed one?

If this helps just one Taco owner: if this happens to you: in a manual transmission, leave engine (at the key) on , depress the clutch, and brake
Auto.. shift into neutral.. brake.
L eave a revved engine running? yea, you have braking and steering that way, until its safe to trun off.
I dont know the full details, maybe they are to be determined, but jees, you know to hit the brake when someone cuts you off/ or a sudden pedestrian....If my engine revvs like that it should be a REFLEX to got to neutral.

All weather mats are the rubber ones, not the carpet ones. Some dealers throw the mats in for free when you buy the truck, so it's possible that it came w/ your Tacoma from the dealer.

+1!

Don't take my word for it completely. When the Recall comes out, make sure that they aren't recalling something other than the mat itself. The information still seems sketchy. While it looks like it's an all-weather mat situation, it could be a problem w/ the clips that hold the mats (both cloth and rubber) in place. Make sure you're not included in the recall before ignoring it.

grrr...
The Federal Department of Transportation has issued an "urgent" warning to owners of several Toyota and Lexus models, strongly advising them to remove the floor mats on the driver's side to prevent the accelerator pedal from sticking.
Issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the advisory notice urges that drivers not replace the mats with anything else. U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood called the recall “an urgent matter.”
Two weeks ago, the company ordered dealers to inspect all cars for mismatched floor mats after a fatal crash in late August, in which an occupant of a runaway 2009 Lexus ES called 911 to report a stuck accelerator pedal and non-functioning brakes.
Four occupants died when that car subsequently crashed, rolled over, and burned. The cause of that crash was suspected to be an accessory floor mats fitted at the dealership that were too large for the vehicle.
Toyota has reportedly agreed to recall up to 3.8 million vehicles to check for the problem; it will be the biggest recall in the company's history. The vehicles affected are:

• 2007-2010 Toyota Camry (sedan)
• 2005-2010 Toyota Avalon (sedan)
• 2004-2009 Toyota Prius (hatchback)
• 2005-2010 Toyota Tacoma (pickup truck)
• 2007-2010 Toyota Tundra (pickup truck)
• 2007-2010 Lexus ES350 (sedan)
• 2006-2010 Lexus IS250 and IS350 (sedan)

Toyota has already conducted one recall for a similar problem, but limited to an accessory all-weather floor mat fitted to the 2007 and 2008 Lexus ES 350 and Toyota Camry. The new list of cars is far more comprehensive.
“For everyone’s sake," LaHood said, "we strongly urge owners of these vehicles to remove mats or other obstacles that could lead to unintended acceleration.”
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Hotline is (888) 327-4236. Toyota owners can reach the company's Experience Center at (800) 331-4331; Lexus owners can contact the Lexus Customer Assistance Center at (800) 255-3987.
We'll bring you more information as we get it.

This recall is almost as stupid as the recent Load carrying capacity reduction of 4lbs! Who gives a shit? What a waste of time and expense in notifying people for something so trivial. Unless you have the OEM mat that is secured in place, every other after market mat is susceptible to slipping out of place. You could drop your cell phone, hamburger, shaver, your jeans or any other toy you happened to be playing with and have it lodge under the accelerator pedal! For Christ's sake, get a clue and learn how to drive [safely]. Move the mat if it's in the way! Shift the transmission into neutral. Shut the ignition off. Hell, jump out if you must!
There are inherent risks in everything we do. Toyota is not responsible and cannot be expected to compensate for every possible variable which comes into play. We all have responsibility for our own actions. Sorry to read that someone died but stop looking for excuses and quit whining about every little thing!
P.S. My factory mats are secured. The Weathertech mats I have on top are not - but I realize this, accept the risk and drive comfortably knowing I am not an idiot!
Now, if I could only balance those damn tires!!!

Dear Susan

In a Reuters on line news report form about 10 moments ago, Reuters has confirmed
that "Toyota plans huge U.S. recall for dangerous floormats".

Toyota Motor Corp said on Tuesday it will recall some 3.8 million vehicles because of the risk that a loose floormat could force down the accelerator, a problem suspected of causing crashes that killed five people.
"This is an urgent matter," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

The U.S. government said it has received reports of 100 related incidents that include 17 crashes and 5 fatalities involving Toyota vehicles.

Toyota and U.S. safety regulators warned owners to remove all driver-side floor mats from eight Toyota and Lexus models manufactured in the last six years and sold in the United States, including its Prius hybrid, as an immediate safety precaution.

The U.S. safety recall would be the largest ever such step for Toyota, the top global automaker.

The recall will cover recent versions of the Camry and Avalon sedans, the Prius hybrid,
the Tacoma and Tundra pickup trucks and luxury Lexus models, the IS250 and the IS350 as well as the ES350.

AS A PRECAUTION, IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THE TOYOTA OR LEXUS MODELS LISTED ABOVE ...
REMOVE YOUR FLOORMATS NOW!! -

TOYOTA WILL SOON ISSUE OFFICAL NOTIFICATION TO AFFECTED OWNERS.
IF YOU PURCHASED A NEW OR PRE-OWNED TOYOTA ANYWHERE OR FROM ANYONE TAKE ACTION NOW. THIS IS A URGENT MATTER AND NEEDS YOUR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION. TOYOTA WORKS HARD TO MANUFACTURE ONLY THE VERY BEST. WHEN RARE PROBLEMS LIKE THIS HAPPEN TOYOTA WILL ALWAYS BE QUICK TO ADDRESS THEM COMPLETELY.

I have a 2009 Tacoma and when I heard of this, I looked at my floor mates, (I replaced the stock ones with Toyota all-weather mats)
I really can't see how this could happen, (or at least be difficult to happen) the mat would have to be raised a couple of inches (or more) to interfere with the accelerator pedal, that and the mats are anchored. I wonder if the mates were changed on the newer models, just my observation, Has anyone else (with a "09") taken a look at theirs. Doc

I'm thinking cautious, i don't see how my cloth ones could snag either, but I'm gonna assume its what you don't see and pull mine for now.

You don't have to do any of that stuff - just push down on the brake pedal as hard as you can. Pretty much any vehicle can come to a stop with the brakes alone - even if the accelerator pedal is at full throttle.
Find a big, empty parking lot and try it sometime. Hold the accelerator pedal to the floor, brake as hard as you can and see which one wins.
