SPP: I agree. So many of these "unintended acceration" cases end up being driver error that I do not believe a thing until I see hard facts. In the meantime, I'll continue to make fun of the tin foil hat brigade.

My wife took her 09 to the dealership for an oil change and tire rotation. They stole her heavy duty, deep treaded Tacoma rubber mats that we paid about $100 for when we bought the truck and replaced them with some cheapo thin rubber mats with no tread to hold slush. Plus the mat is cut out right under the accelerator so the carpet there is doomed to be ruined by salt and slush. And they replaced her pedal with the smaller one. I called and complained and they promised to try to find me a heavier duty mat. I told them I wanted the ones I bought back but they said they had to send them back to Toyota. I told them if they can't find me the same mats I want a full refund. They promised to "work with me" and get back to me in about a week. The guy said they have had a lot of complaints. Ya think? This is BS.

Sorry. Just needed to vent a little and this thread was listed as a link in some old email I had gotten from TW admin when I joined last year.

Yeah, I've just been searching here and see that the Weathertechs seem to be pretty popular. It just pisses me off that they did that. We had zero problems with the ones we had. I realize it was a recall but I don't see what right they have to take something I paid extra for and replace them with POS mats. They could have at least let me keep the old ones or sign a waiver or something.

I can understand both sides of this , yours is easy to figure out , and Toyota wants to get the mats that have been deemed to be a hazard out of the system , but they really should give you a full refund .

I know - I normally hang out on the wranglerforum.com and it's always pretty funny when someone dredges up an old thread. I really never looked at the dates until after I posted it! :D

The guy said he was going to check on line for something comparable to what I had. I'll call him and tell him to buy me the Weathertechs and we can call it good. ;)

I wonder if the WTs meet Toyota's safety standards?

The original 2nd gen danger mats are going to be worth a lot by the time Toyota gets thru with all this crap ass propaganda war they are waging on the floor mats and gas pedals. Runnin WT's to keep the danger mats pristine for future sale and so they can't be confiscated if truck HAS to go to dealer for any drivetrain issues until that warranty runs out. Hurray for zombie threads............

After almost a week of phone calls the dealership finally got back to me. It was the fault of the service guy as he was supposed to notify my wife of the mat recall and give her the option of either new mats or keeping the original ones and signing a waiver. They just took them and replaced them. So they gave me a full refund of $106.99, plus I got to keep the replacement mats. I am about to order the Weathertechs. :)

Got the Weathertechs. The wife loves them! (It's her truck) Thanks for the suggestion!
