The more and more I read about this it makes me think that something is going on here. I can understand manufacturers pricing for factory items and such. But I personally would like to get some real info to find out if aftermarket grille and accessories are all that much different and Toyota is just making stuff up to get people to pay more. Especially when it comes to this grille, garnish and mounting brackets.

The earlier question about the Pro Grille might shed some light. Is it subtly different and lowers the sensor mount?

The pro grill does lower the sensor an inch or 2, it's in the bottom of the grill as opposed to right in the center. I lifted my truck 2.5" and installed the pro grill knock off and I think my sensor is in about the same position. No recalibration by the way, still works fine.

Wasn’t fast enough to edit. Is the ‘new’ pro grille for this setup subtly different from the original OEM pro grille. I too swapped in a pro grille a few years back and the 2” drop hasn’t caused me any issue.

I would like to know this as well. The issue I have regardless of the OEM camera is the difference in heights and if it "really matters" in the calibration and to what degree.

    Example:
    2020 Tacoma OR,
Stock OR Tacoma, OR grille, no lift. Standard height for sensor for this vehicle.
Stock OR Tacoma, changes to Pro grille. Certain height of new sensor.
Stock OR Tacoma, factory lift installed w/Pro grille. Different height.
Stock OR Tacoma, aftermarket lift, OR grille. Different height depending on lift height.

Am I overthinking this? I am trying to understand why a "new" sensor would ever be needed to be added to the parts list for something that is usually calibrated for any and all lift/lower height differences. Maybe I'm wrong here but this doesn't seem to make any sense to me.

that’s why you need have taco friends, i got 5100 (8k mile) with stock spring for 150bucks since the taco friend upgraded to king’s. It probably take me 5,6 hours to install the shocks and rear block. If the shocks ever got damage I can just put the stock shocks back on.
This still better than the spacer lift.

The lift will not effect the mpg, the tire will impact the mpg.

Me either. Seems unnecessary. The sensor must have a range of acceptable angles because I've rarely seen anyone have any issues when changing grills, lifting, etc..

Part Drawing 2 for Pro Grill: https://parts.toyota.com/images/parts/toyotaOEM/fullsize/a1_535162C.jpg
Part Drawing 3 for Pro Grill: https://parts.toyota.com/images/parts/toyotaOEM/fullsize/a1_536146.jpg

Drawings one and two do not call out the part number for the Grill insert and drawing three has a note that N04 (the reference for the insert) is not available for service. (Whatever that means)

There is nuance with the grill inserts and I can think of 4 possible Grill configurations.

    1. Pre TSS Pro Grill - with camera hole - comes with "dummy" garnish that goes in the TSS Garnish Spot - I've got this part in hand so I know it exists. When they ordered the grill part - the dummy garnish came inserted into the grill.
    2. Pre TSS Pro Grill - w/o camera hole - comes with "dummy" garnish that goes in the TSS Garnish Spot
    3. Post TSS Pro Grill - with camera hole - comes with legit garnish
    4. Post TSS Pro Grill - w/o camera hole - comes with legit garnish

Thinking about that there are ultimately two grills (N04 from picture 3) - with and without the camera hole.

Specifically, my question is if there is a third grill piece now. I'm almost certain there isn't - and the bits about the grill are just a money grab backed by "legal/safety" concerns. I don't know the exact number in inches but the suspension lifts the truck 1" in the front. If they did not replace the grill, they should easily be able to re-calibrate the TSS. If their engineers have proof that the one inch makes it impossible to calibrate the TSS - then prove it - spoiler alert, they can't. (I called my local dealership explaining that I have 33" tires on my truck now (so it sits higher) and I'd like the TSS recalibrated - they said no problem).

The TSS position on a stock TRD OR grill is in the center of the grill. The TSS position on the pro grill is lower by a couple inches. So when they replace it - the position of the sensor is still not "exactly" where it was pre-lift.

It all smells too fishy to me to justify doing. I would only consider this if buying new - fuck doing this after purchase.

The lift will most likely affect MPG's. By removing the vehicles rake, more air will travel under the truck, and there are a lot of obstacles to create drag down there.

Still haven't seen why this kit is not listed for use with earlier 3rd generation. Except for having extra unnecessary parts i don't know a valid reason. Anyone know a reason?

I being tracking my mod vs mpg for while.
When I star tracing have wildpeak 265/70/17 with bed cover I will get about 21mpg.
I have installed pro intake and pro exhaust it decrease my mpg by 1.
And I have 2:1 lift for couple weeks now, I do not seen any effect about my mpg change.

And I had Hooke roof rack for little bit, it decreased my mpg by 1.5 to 2 with too much wind noise for me when I’m doing above 60mph.

Next mod I will install DV8 skid plate(about 80lb) we seen how it goes.

They have an excess of those fucking $417 TSS grill garnishes and can't sell them. So they are limiting sales to the 2020 until they can reduce inventory. Then once they get that handled they will magically "listen to their customers" and open up sales to non TSS years/models

If you buy from eBay and installed yourself, Do you get Toyota warranties?
Like people mentioned 3 year warranty for 2020 truck is good deal.

Also cannot see any reason what so ever that it would not work on a 2WD. It is the same parts. I just got my shocks and struts yesterday so I guess I'll find out in a couple weeks if it works or not.

I appreciate the write up on this and to me you have a lot of good point in here. For me, this kit was a way to get a Pro grille, factory installed, while keeping the warranty without questions from an unruly dealer. Some of the questions/answers on here leads me to think this "kit" isn't all its cracked up to be for some people. Especially since the aftermarket options are so vast. I have no problem with a company making money from their products but I do have issues with making it seem like certain parts won't work together when they will. Perhaps they have a lot of stock they are sitting on. Well, then stop asking for VIN's to get a Pro grille and the garnish will sell faster. Just seems like Toyota is making things harder than they need to in this regard. Rant over.

So there was a guy a while back who installed a 2020 TRD Pro grille onto his 2020 TRD OR with Multi-Terrain view camera and his 360° view got all wonky and didn't line up with the side images anymore.

Has anyone had this issue with this kit? Or does the dealer recalibrate the camera? Would the new milliwave sensor have anything to do with the camera settings somehow?

Pics of your 360° view post install would be great.
