I've seen it. On the factory bolsteins the cups are separate. If they are orientated like a cup your mounts are upside down and will give it the look of a level kit.

    So check his perches.

When I took mine off, the perches were not separate. They were part of the strut body

Pic related are factory bilsteins, they are press fitted to a polymer c clip. Mine were installed upside from the factory and the idiot techs didn't catch it during preinspection.

Yes, the front was lifted. I didn't take pics of the strut installed (didn't think to at the time). But the hat sits higher and overcompresses the spring if installed upside down.

that's actually a bit interesting, but im not as suprised as i would be knowing that alot of torques on these trucks are often under torque so upside down cups could be part if thier error in manufacturing

on a side note how does the C clip not just shear off under heavy use, let alone a polymer one???

Yup that's how they should look.
Only thing might be spring settling? Maybe tire pressure?

could it have been possible that 2x4 springs were installed instead of 4x4? this is under the assumption that heavier load springs are used to support extra weight of the 4x4 drive train. unless they are the same part number, im just speculating at this point

The same reason they don't sheer off on 6112s or the TRD oem lift kit.

You could compare both of the Tacomas to other new ones on a lot (similar models) for ride height and find out..

Oh boy....so I made an appointment for the TRD lift. It came to just over $3100 CDN with taxes....but now I'm second guessing myself.

Here is the main reason I'm wanting to go OEM and please be honest with me for the pros and cons

    1) the front grille with camera and sensor. I know several people have said they have lifted the truck with no issues, but after having the scary issues with pedal commander, I really don't want to mess around with something that controls my braking and acceleration. Also I couldn't find the grill with the camera, it seems like the aftermarket don't really have them.

    2) Warranty - my truck only has 10k kms so I don't want them denying me for something that is because of a lift I did.

That's pretty much it... So here's the negatives

    1) The price... I can get some HEAVY DUTY lift kits for this kinda price that doesn't include the blocks/spacer

    2) What happens if there is issues with my suspension after the year warranty, does Toyota just say meh, too bad, the vibrations in your truck is not covered anymore

    3) if I decided to find a aftermarket pro grille with the camera, could I go to Toyota and get them to realign it or do they just tell me to beat it.
Thanks guys, I just don't want to make a huge mistake. The truck runs fine now, and I want it lasting 15+ years, so is any lift going to get me into trouble down the road?

    Thank you everyone

thats about $2500 US which is a little steep for me. problem with that kit is literally the only thing i want are the front shocks and the warranty. i dont like the spacer for the rear springs its just going to make axle wrap worse (as well as the grille and fog light delete kit i feel just needlessly adds to the cost) and since i drive offroad often id want a semi decent setup. i have been looking at getting 5100s (or something comparable) and Deaver J66 rear leafs which will give me the 2 inch front lift and 1 inch rear lift which i estimate to be $1500 in just parts.

Thank you for the response...yes, I believe it's VERY steep for a lift I'm not 100% satisfied with... Everyone talks about the 5100s and I did a bit of research and this might be the better option...

I was in the same boat as you - do I buy the trd lift or buy 5100's. I ended up getting the 5100's - first off I am a mechanic so I would install the kit myself but it was still $1800cdn just for the kit. My dealer said they would be able to recalibrate the sensor in the grill for me if I put the kit in myself. In the end I just figured the price premium for the trd kit just wasn't worth it to me regardless of warranty on the lift. One thing to note is the warranty on the kit is only one year I think if it is installed on a used vehicle. I ended up paying about $700cdn for my 5100's and rear block. Much better than $1800 plus tax. I am happy with how my truck rides - definitely better than the stock Bilsteins.
