So as I understand it, this is only at certain stealership's. I'm at my local one getting my 40K service done, noticed this program, has anyone on here upgraded their tacoma using this program? Did you end up lowering your payments if so? Just curious.

Are you talking about buying a new truck? All dealers and manufactures do it, they will offer you a lower model or longer loan terms to lower your monthly payments. Bad deal in my humble opinion.

@shakerhood, I agree it's their way of sugar coating, "if you owe less than what the vehicle is worth...." you know the rest.

It's just a sales tactic, any dealer can get you a new vehicle with lower payments, they just don't speculate the length of the loan.

    other tactics

    -Employee pricing

-Free TV, free vacation, free bikini wax

-Entered to win your purchase etc.

I’d like my cup holders upgraded to fit larger bottles. Who do I need to talk to?

Not entirely true. I'm waiting until my lease is up next year to find out first hand myself. However, I do personally know someone who continues to swap out the highest model Tundra at my dealership every 2 years without changing his payment or downgrading any features. Witchcraft perhaps?

True one CAN trade-in every 2 years and get the new model equivalent package without changing payments. It is all dependent upon loan term and purchase price.

Essentially, will the equity in said trade-in vehicle equate to enough down to make financed amount on the new vehicle equal(ish) to prior financed amount?

This actually worked for me many years ago. Bought a new Saturn, 2 years later I was able to trade it in and drive out with a brand new duplicate Saturn. I was only "out" the 2 years of payments. I was able to do this 2 times, which ended up with me buying 3 brand new cars with 2 paid off by trade in. The 3rd and final Saturn went to the ex-wife in the divorce about 5 months after the trade in deal was done. 3 cars and the payment never changed.

A lease is a different animal from what I was talking about.

If a dealer is only discussing payment and not sale price, I imagine they are making money hand over fist. Always know what the total vehicle price is.

Is this sort of like “You’re 2012 tacoma is in high demand! Dealers are looking for your exact truck and we need it! Come in today to trade it in so we can increase our inventory of your 2012 Tacoma“

I get one of these every two months or so from the dealer. I have two years left on payments. They will put me in a brand new Taco for $25 less a month in payments. Further down .... five year term.

You can trade every 2 years with a vehicle that has a high resale like the tacoma, and not have payment amount increases, but you will never pay anything off. Every two years you start from scratch and the truck loan will continue forever.

Correct. Though as others have said, it IS a sales tactic. a New car/truck every 2 years and "same" payments sure feels like a lease. Never ending payments, but new and shiny every 2 like a cell phone.

No different than the 5 or 6 calls I get each week about my expiring warranty. I have 4 cars in the driveway 2010 Camry (no warranty), 2017 Taco (2 more years), 2018 Rav (right at 6 months old), 2018 Camry (daughter just made her first payment). I have no warranties that are "about" to expire. I do, however, have an ever increasing list of blocked numbers on my phone.:rofl:

At my last service they tried the “we can get in in a new truck with the same payment” They ran the numbers and my payment doubled. I said no thanks and went home.

Having sold vehicles in the past, this was the main goal. Get people to focus on payment terms and they start to overlook final purchase price.

A key feature I miss from my '08.

    This helps...
    https://www.amazon.com/BottlePro-2-0-Adjustable-Extendable-Nalgenes/dp/B01M028L5E
I put one in the cupholder behind my center console. Keeps the nalgene from rolling all over, and isn't sticking up around the gear shifter, A/C controls, etc.
