You said you've never been approached? Damn. I got approached with sales pitches at my last three service visits. Since I moved on to doing my own oil after the freebies ended, I get cold-called by both the service department and the sales floor maybe once a quarter. Actually, last week I got three emails from the service bay asking when I'd come in for an oil change. I stopped after the 20,000 mile service, the truck just rolled 68k. That's how long its been.

I must have the right face or something. I get approached all the time by cold sales, whether its cars, hot tubs, or mattresses. It gets annoying after a while. If you don't, you're really lucky. Or maybe you need a shower. I don't know. :cookiemonster::cookiemonster::cookiemonster:

I got the same call. 2023 SR5 AT. They left me voicemail (linked below), sounds like they have Toyota Engineers going around the country doing these scans.

    Voicemail left by Woburn Toyota

If the link doesn't work, let me know and I'll fix it.

I have never, in my life, been approached for that.
In addition, if I had as much paranoia as some here or, the amount of drama that must have happened in their life to get them to this fear and loathing of dealers, I would be in a padded room in a fetal position softly whispering for my mom.

Hang on. I don't fear dealers. I don't loathe them. Its not like being cold-called sends me into a dark hole of terror. I don't understand those that assume that I think the sky will fall if I hear another crummy commercial.

Its mildly annoying. That's my perspective there. Why should I bother to be mildly annoyed, when I could go straight home and navel gaze instead? That's it. I probably wasted more time on this thread alone than if I had gone in and listened to a sales pitch. But at least I'm not mildly annoyed by it.

Ok... it's veterans day, and I finally had time to take my truck in for the spiral cable recall. I take it in and the fix the cable. I leave the dealership and the trucks stalls every 30 seconds. When I come to a stop, which in LA there is a signal or stop sign every hundred yards. After the 3rd time of stalling out. I head back to the dealer, I brought it in and it has never stalled on me before this work was done:mad:
As I am sitting in the waiting room (per say) on what's wrong with my truck. A rookie service writer comes in and approaches this Asian guy. He proceeded to tell him that for some sensor and 4 new struts/shocks were going to cost him 2100$. I just started shaking my head. The customer noticed, and I told him to take his keys and run.
I go out front to have a smoke and the next thing I know, the supervisor of the department come walking his jelly dounut ass out to me. He is now asking, " am I a mechanic or have any special qualifications?"

No, but I do have common sense, that says you are trying to rape this man without vasoline.:annoyed:
Shocks/struts only run about 100$ each, the sensor is about 50$.
The manager then had my truck pulled from the bay, even if it was fixed properly or not.
Because I called them out on their bullshit, I have now been black balled from at least 3 dealerships in my area.:cool::smokertransformer:

Edit... btw, that Asian guy asked me what he should do. I was just listening into a conversation that I happened to disagree with. If he hadn't asked me, I would have never said a thing.:spending:

Lets ignore the fact that the Tacoma doesn't have struts and shocks don't cost $50 and high five him for being a hero and move along like nothing ever happened.

Ok so you are going to be one of those????
Struts and shocks can be bought for 50 to 100 each depending on what you want... on oxygen sensor is definitely not 500$... so, they want to charge this gentleman for 2100$. When parts are less than 600$
    Sounds unfair to me.:fistbump:

Have you been on the market place for Tacoma, pruis or 4 runners? Plenty of others giving away stock suspensions for pretty much free.:fistbump:

And you expected the dealer to say "ah mate ya shocks are fucked hey go hit up marketplace and slap some takeoffs on"?

    Yeah, they're the issue.

    A TRD off-road left-front is $750: PTR61-35170-LF

Oem work+ parts are expensive .

If you want shit non oem parts and are going to wrench yourself that’s when you get the prices you quoted.

    toyota parts aren’t cheap.
