After reading like 30 comment's about how "I'm not picking a fight, you're not picking a fight with me" BS

Does anybody know what they are actually "checking" for?

I haven’t seen anyone on here or on Reddit get an answer from Toyota on what they’re doing but it seems to be focused on the north east. I imagine it’s checking the performance of the new rust proofing they put in after the frame replacement saga.

The dealers might not even know.

Sketchy. Every time I go in for an oil change they tell me the air filter and cabin filter are dirty and the serpentine belt is worn/cracked. The filters have only 5K on them and the belt was replaced 40K ago. I know they're under the gun by mgmt to push services, so I play the game and politely decline. "Frame Survey" sounds like a lure to get you in there so they can push/sell services.

After the initial mandatory inspection and CRC application, Toyota dealers will do a yearly frame inspection every 12 months for free. That doesn't mean I trust them: I check it every six months myself with a visual once-over and a hammer, and in the spring and fall and coat it again myself with FluidFilm and/or WoolWax.

Well, that does explain some things. I am not saying Used Cars can do for you what it has done for me but sometimes it's your best bet.

Yep, replace that for sure. Not that hard but make sure you have a long Allen wrench I wanna say it way 8mm, maybe 5...for the Idle pulley.

Sounds like a good place to avoid in the first place, do me that favour haha

I mean I have seen entire movies shown in large chain theaters that were shot on an iPhone only.

Curious what dealer, if you want to PM me..just wondering.

    Worked for me just fine

Listen to the clip Mont posted, talks a little more about it

It is a 5mm but it has to be long enough to actually reach the tension relief nut. Your average 2, 2 1/2" Allen wrench is not gonna reach the tension relief nut. Where I went wrong and I was "what the F are they talking about?" Then I actually looked at photo and realized my tool was too short...never even crossed my mind.

Going into my 4th winter. Totally stock. I have not sprayed any rust inhibitors. 2020 PNW frame with mild salt exposure. Came from the factory with that brown material applied onto the frame. I think this was started on the 2018 model year? So I wonder if this frame enhancement to help resist salt corrosion particularly in the rust belt areas is adequate to prevent future frame rot issues and that’s what Toyota is checking?

I'm going to have it done at the dealership in Poway. $200 with my Senior Discount. As the Cling Eastwood character says, "You got to know your limitations" Hell at age 70, I get a cramp in my ass putting my shoes on!
I can see me crawling around under the nose of my Tacoma! Not!

Wow that brown stuff is ugly. My 17 doesn't have any of that...

In it's place it has rust.

So I guess it does something.

I'm guessing that it's a port add-on. My 2018 does not have the mysterious brown spackle either, but justifiably there is no reason to goop it on the vehicles that go through the southern ports.
