Hey fellas. I want to change my oil at 2K as truck is new and I think its a good thing to replace filter that might have metal parts inside.

I was wondering, will this cancel my free service Toyota warranty that comes with the vehicle? does anyone knows anything about this?

But honestly... I doubt you need to worry about it. Just do the 5k change and let them do it as usual.

Change it yourself at 2000 miles if you want to. The 5000 mile freebie at the dealer is just an inspection and tire rotation. The dealer reccomends the first oil change at 10000 miles.

You can probably have the dealer change it for you if you want. When I had my 3rd gen the dealer didn’t care about miles, they were just on the hook for two oil changes and two inspections prior to 20k miles.

They don’t care. They will fulfill your free services whenever you want. It’s just limited to the 5 free ones you get.

Only 2 of those are oil changes. One at 10k, the other at 20k

Imo, it's totally unnecessary to change your oil at that stage unless it hasn't been driven much in a year. Wait till at least 5k miles, or a year.

Toyotacare will change the oil at 5k, or 1 year.

The real question here is, do you really want your dealer changing your oil? Oil and tires get the most inexperienced techs who are just learning, and I speak from sad experience when I say that they do screw up. If you aren't changing it yourself I suggest finding a trusted local shop. My truck will not see the dealership again unless it's for warranty work.

Do it at home or a trusted independent mechanic if it makes you sleep better.

Then let the dealer do it at 10k. They'll have no idea it was done early, and now 'short', they'll just record a 10k change.

I plan on changing mine every 5k. Just let the dealer pay for every other.

Toyota changes oil at 10K for the first time. I would change at 5K. I had Toyota change it with the 5K service and paid them extra bucks. That way no warranty issues.

I usually do not trust dealerships.. I can do my oil change but I just don't want to lose rest of the warranty/services like alignment & rotating etc.

Hell I have dealership literally next to my house, by wall. Yet never been there, this is how distrustful I am. I am planning getting a house with garage in the distant future.

Dealer wouldn't change my oil at 5,000.
Found a real good independent shop that works on nothing but Toyota.
Went there and will never go back to the dealer again.

Well for that matter, with the extra steps needed now to change the oil on these 3.5's, it's possible even we can screwup.

Yes, it is possible we can screw up too. For me I feel it is less of a chance because I love my truck, take my time when I work on it and want to do things right.

The only screw up I did was make a mess. The 0w20 oil is thin like water. Got fumoto drain valve and a small hose and scrap piece of garden hose for filter housing drain thingy that comes with my filter. And both drain in the same pan at the same time. All good now. I have a cold one while the oil is draining. It's all good. Did it today actually.
