I have never understood this. Dealers are paid by Toyota to do the warranty work, and they are paid fairly. Any dealer looking to pad their bottom line should be happy to take on the work. That said, they can be audited, which is why they deny stuff that is obviously beyond the scope of what's actually covered.

    few things here and there.

I literally, three days ago, called Toyota of Spartanburg. Asked them about the TSB for the transmission update. A tech told me (serious as could be) he has never seen a third Gen tacoma come in for a transmission update, and the TSB’s did not come up in their system. I called another dealership and they found them right away.

    So damn annoying.

I'm not sure that has anything to do with what I'm talking about, but I agree it's annoying.

    Let me clarify,

they are getting paid to do warranty work, so I’d imagine TSB’s are viewed as warranty work, yeah? Why act like they don’t exist? Get paid to do an easy quick job, such as a software update. Why pushback on it? It just appeared they siding want to do it.

A lot of people aren't very good at their jobs. It sounds like you found someone that didn't know about the TSB. If you provided the TSB information for them, perhaps they could have looked it up and signed you up for an appointment. While it's not your job to do that, sometimes you gotta help people along. It doesn't make much financial sense for a dealer to shy away from warranty work.

TSBs are quite simply the manufacturer acknowledging an issue and, their approved repair for that issue. Whether or not your vehicle is under warranty doesn't matter.

Agreed you got an idiot that didn't know how to do their job, or was just being polite about not wanting to work on your truck. Some service advisors are scared by customers with more knowledge than them.

I had a chirping belt on mine, took it in, they said it wasn't chirping, as I go to pick it up, it's loud as fuck. I said, "do you not hear that?" and he apologized but said to bring it back if it continues (it was closing time). So I go back up there and tell them to look up TSB for the belt, as there is one. The kid goes "what's a DSB?"

My point is, these dumdum desk jockeys at the dealerships know VERY VERY little about what they're talking about.

again i work at a third party warranty.

a tune would void the warranty you are removing limits put by the engineers at Toyota. but this is where is tricky. they tunes that i have seen offered for the Tacoma are mention to be untraceable. they don't raise any flags or trigger any ECU checkmarks. so the only way to know if you truck is tune is to have a tuner attached to the truck ( this happens with Cobb accesports in Fords and subarus) or mentioning that information to the shop ( sercvice writer or tech)

Wow, see, I was unsure if they were untraceable. So literally.. if you don’t say you’re tuned, they cannot specially call you out on it UNLESS there is obvious code or something? Forgive me, I know nothing about this stuff lol

TSB is a technical service Bulletin. this will only tell the technician how to do a certain repairs this is not a recall. TSB are usually for normal repair that requires something extra like "when replacing this sensor you need to replace the wiring harness attached to it and reprogram the computer, if not done sensor would give a bad reading" and they will charge the customer for the repair and the extra parts needed. ass for recall are meant for factory failures that will put the driver or people in danger like the floor-mats recall from a couple of years back they where pressing the accelerator pedal making people crash, the recall was installing updated floor mats and installing special hooks so they don't roll. this was paid by toyota and not the owner. another one is the recall on Kia Soul for catching fire due to a bad fuel pipe. the fix is to replace that fuel pipe with an updated version and requires to remove the high pressure pump + gasket + new fuel pipe

The only people that should install a supercharger on a light duty truck are the ones with FU money or have the garage and expertise to fix what WILL break. Then warranties don’t matter

That's quite the leap of logic, just because someone (correctly) points out all bet are off regarding a warranty repair of an automatic transmission down stream of an aftermarket supercharger, does not in any way say they are flaming superchargers.

Is it really? Most of what im reading is not to install a SC unless you have the money or know how to fix it, how is that a stretch?

Buy a Raptor R, it has a supercharger. That's better than spending money on a lawyer.

    200k on a Raptor R, or 200k on a warranty lawyer?

I'd rather have the Raptor over the lawyer, even if I jumped the Raptor and snapped the frame in half with 5 miles on the ODO.
