It's not shifting constantly and it drives like a normal truck now. The skinny pedal is definitely more touchy, but in a good way. It was a little rainy last night while I was driving around and I did need to be a tiny bit more careful about spinning the rear tires when accelerating from a stop. The biggest benefit so far has been what @tonered mentioned though about just not needing to worry about the exact amount of throttle needed.

Hello folks, I'm new here but I have driven tacoma's since 89.
Just got a 2018...same damn issue! Exactly!
Got home from a trip, 2000 mi no issues.
Got up to get coffee, middle of hwy 180 brake override failure see dealership. I miss my 1996 so bad right now!
Dealer says same; throttle position yuck yuck, replacing the intake system and all it's silicone components. Claimed they never heard of this problem before....guess they don't read this.
Now and forever I'll be waiting to loose my engine when passing a tractor trailer...so much for my faith in toyota, oh and the money I spent.

Not opinionated one way or the other, but those of you bashing the OP for correlating a drive-ability fault with a recent upgrade/alteration (OVtune) is a valid assumption. belittling him for stating what modifications he had done before the issue and saying it blemishes OVtune is just retarded. OVtune has a solid product that works well for many, slight issues are bound to come up.. the fact that he came back and reported with was an issue with the TSS is more than sufficient in my opinion..

    I would hope so.

That said, I'm not a fan of tunes. If I need more power I will buy a new truck that has it. Good luck and keep the board posted on what they find.

    Hello Everyone,

We would like to hear if anyone else has this issue (with, without tuning). We have seen this now on a few tuned trucks and a few untuned trucks, one customer of ours mentioned Toyota said some of these trucks and a lot of Toyota 4Runners have faulty throttlebodies (manufacture fault) that is causing this. We cannot confirm that, only relaying what we have been told, and would like to check if there are more untuned trucks out there experiencing this.

I saw the same "brake override failure" warning during the flashing process on my truck, but been 1200 miles so far with no issues. Only other time I've had an issue was when bugs obscured my radar I guess, a simple restart fixed it.

Definitely going to switch off the performance tune as that tip-in was a lot stronger than I thought it would be. Otherwise it drives great, interested in how the base tune drives. Thanks again for the awesome tune.

    Hey Matt,
First off, thanks for all your hard work. Really great product. This is just a data point for you as requested. Don't flame me guys and gals! :)

New truck (03/19 production date) had about 200 miles on it when I installed the 87 base tune. Drove great. Vast improvement over stock. Had the override failure twice in two days within about 35 miles. Freaked me out. Flashed back to stock and no problems yet in another 30 miles. Will continue to monitor and rack up miles. Will take it to the dealership the next time it happens. Would the original 2 faults still be present in the ECU after flashing it back to stock? I doubt it. I cleared them with my scanner before flashing back but don't want to take it in for service if there is no evidence of the malfunction.

I don't believe the tune to be the problem but the timing was concerning. I think they have put too much electronic control crap on these in the 16 years since my last one. (totalled) It even had an actual throttle cable. I dearly miss my 2003 right now...

    Hello,

We have seen a few more trucks with this issue now, and it *may* be related to the throttle changes in our tune in combination with the radar sensor of these newer trucks. We are investigating it right now. 9 out of 10 of the trucks with radar sensors don't do it though, so it is odd

I wouldn’t look too deep into it just yet. First thing to check if you get the brake override malfunction should be your taillight bulbs. The filaments are weak and when they go they will burn one side and swing down. When this happens on the top filament it swings down and contacts the lower filament causing brake signals A and B to get cross coupled which throws your brake override malfunction message up and cuts throttle. I dealt with it for over a month before I figured out what was going on. Sometimes the smallest bump or easiest turn others when wheeling hard or bombing dirt roads. Also that Filament can swing back up and sit back where it belongs sometimes your brake light will appear to be working and lit until you jar it enough to knock it down. My .02 get some quality bulbs or better yet led push ins. Could save your ass someday

Not sure if the hand brake is the same error..but to update everyone on this we found the throttle bug in the 2019s and have a fix for it we will be releasing.
Happens tuned or not, but more likely with tune because we change the throttle. Tables were setup pre- bug discovery

I have been testing the 04B31 beta for almost 2500 miles now with no brake override malfunction! I can confirm that Mat has nailed it on this one guys. I had about 6 of them on 1.05. Be patient, it's well worth the wait.
