Toyota: Why pay for resale value if you never intend to re-sell? (yes, I changed the title)

If you think they're overvalued, then you shouldn't spend your hard-earned money on one. That's capitalism 101.

The reason they hold their value better than other comparable trucks is because they run forever and are good at what they're designed to do. If you are going to destroy it within 5 years, to the point it won't be valuable beyond parting it out, you're the outlier, not the Tacoma, and it doesn't make sense to spend any amount of money on one.

If you buy one and intentionally set it on fire, you can't then complain it no longer has value. That's essentially what you're saying you plan to do "through regular off roading."

Plenty of people on this forum are into extreme off roading, but most don't intentionally destroy them to the point they have no value. It would be hard, through regular off roading, to destroy one within 5 years to the point the have no value, hence my set on fire analogy.

It seems like you want a tank, not a truck. They are good machines, and do what they're designed to do. If you're destroying them in five years (which it seems like you're planning to do) you're either not doing regular off roading, or changing the way you drive it will a) make it last a lot longer and, b) ensure it has value beyond 5 years.

That's not the Tacoma's fault. Get a (real) Baja truck, if that's how you drive it.

It's not Toyota, it's the way you treat your vehicles. Vent away, but at least admit it's you, not Toyota or Toyota customers.

Probably the biggest reason manual transmissions are out is because of emissions standards and automatic transmissions becoming more fuel efficient than manuals, which wasn't the case twenty years ago.

ultimately, you came in, bitched about a truck that is known for reliability and the fact that they hold value and cost to much for you. when you describe what youre really looking for to be more around the idea or a RZR or offload rig. spend money of a dedicated rig and learn to drive it right then blasting through shit and destroying a perfectly good truck and bitching about it

You wish trucks people own and don't intentionally destroy depreciated more...

...while complaining they don't hold up to your abuse...

    This is fucking amazing.

I didn't real all 16 pages, but am I correct in that the essence of this thread is "I don't take care of my stuff and it pisses me off that are people willing to pay good money for similar things in good condition? I want really good stuff for half of it's real market value."

If so, why are people even trying to have a rational conversation with this guy?
