Toyota: Why pay for resale value if you never intend to re-sell? (yes, I changed the title)

The sales guys know that if you don't buy the auto Tacoma there are 5 guys lined up behind you, so they don't really want to waste their time talking to you if they can't convince you to buy what they have. Tacomas are always constrained. In the time it takes them to work to find you a manual somewhere in the world and do the negotiation and paperwork to get it transferred the guy in the next desk sold 3 more cars and the sales manager is chewing him out for lagging behind. I have found a few exceptions and like you I try to funnel sales to them as much as I can because I want them to remain in sales. In most cases I find that they leave sales because the sales managers don't want them to help people, they want them to turn sales as fast as possible.

    True, and good points.
Guess that's just the way things go.

I don't hate on Tacoma for their new lineup options.. I just wish they offered more Manual tran trims, and maybe had a version without all the computer stuff for a lesser price. When I was shopping for a new Tacoma last fall, it was basically impossible to find a new Base 2.7 4x4 access cab with a manual tran, I would of had to either special order and wait months, or buy a sport, which is the same price as the off road so you would think I should just buy the off road, but they only sell the off road in double cab which is a dealer breaker for me, and many others...

The color schemes and physical aspects are very pleasing to the eye, but... I do agree the 3rd gen seems marketed far more towards soccer mom types, and not guys that really want a truck for truck use, but that goes for all new vehicles. Guys like us who like K.I.S.S ( Keep it simple stupid ) are becoming a dying breed. All the fancy stuff is just more stuff that can be broken in my eyes and when broken just further depreciates the value of the vehicle, making the investment a poorer choice.. I got a used second gen because I knew I would scratch it up and whatnot, seemed silly to pay twice as much for a brand new truck that I couldn't get at a decent price, or for the trim I really wanted. I almost got a Frontier pro4x, but they also only have the manual in a double cab with a short bed.

But your point is the very reason we aren't getting the trims many of us want, for ever guy who wants a KISS truck, there are 100 guys who want an automatic with all the comfort features and fancy computerized doo daahs to drive back and forth from soccer practice

That's great for you but it hasn't been the case for me. I have had multiple F150's with absolutely no issues but I'd guess someone like you would instantly point out flaws with that truck. Too be honest given what I had heard in Toyota lore from Toyota fans before I bought this truck I expected more out of it. Has it been a great truck that I love? Absolutely. I'm not going to get rid of it until I can't fix it, but to say that it's by far the best truck I've ever owned would be an overstatement. The issues I've mentioned have been experience by hundreds of Tacoma owners just on this site and that's just a small sample of the Tacomas that are out there. The Tacoma has weak points. I'll also say that if it wasn't for the unique opportunity that came up with a dealership and my ex wife that lead to me getting a screaming deal on a Tacoma I probably wouldn't own one. Mostly because of the cost even though I feel the truck is worth it for it's unique attributes now that I've drove one.
Orkin uses them, so do a lot of small businesses. That wasn't my point though. My point is big companies in Ag, Forestry, and Oil don't usually run Toyota when it comes to quarter or half tons. I worked for an Agrium outlet for several years in operations and I did do fleet ordering. The cost of running a Tundra over three years is insane both for gas and for lease payments compared to other half tons and I'm sure the Tacoma is similar when compared to the Colorado. I see a lot of Telus Colorado's running around here. The only work Tacoma I've ever seen personally was in Lethbridge where the city is forced by a bylaw to buy trucks from every dealer (IE they have a bit of everything.)

My Taco's have been basically flawless, and cost me less money.
I'm not going to go drop 50,000$ on a new ford that will depreciate months worth of income as soon as I drive off the lot. Talk about a shitty investment, you'll be upside down on a loan for years getting a brodoser.
If you don't like your taco, at least you can go sell it and get a good wad of cash for it, good luck doing that with a ford.
My tacos never left me stuck on the side of the road with smoke coming out the hood. With the amount I spent in repairs on my Ford, I could have bought multiple used vehicles.
My ford was a complete piece of shit and I'll never own another one:bananadead:.

I knew that'd be your reply . You can't reason with fanboys.

Enjoy your truck man. It's all just steel at the end of the day.

Well, lets analyze it beyond fanboyism and just from a purely technical standpoint....
    From my personal experience
Tacomas = Reliable, never broke down on me, never needed anything beside basic maintenance. = Good experience
Ford = Left me on side of road multiple times, not reliable, giant money pit, constant expensive repairs, piece of shit. = Bad experience

Also, I don't need to tow heavy stuff, I mainly just off road, hunt, camp, fish...
From this standpoint and many others the taco is just a way better investment for a guy like me.
I can't think of a single reason why I would spend twice as much for a ford that will just depreciate like crazy as soon as I get it.

I don't understand why you would be hyping up ford on a Tacoma forum.
When you talk about fleet purchases, that has nothing to do with guys like us, we are buying personal vehicles, not making multi million dollar deals with big businesses.

Not trying to beat my chest or anything, just being honest here.

Nice, you didn't discredit a single one of my points, you just directly came at me personally then ran away.
If you must, please come back and tell me on this Tacoma forum how buying a ford is a better investment for an individual.

I didn't run man, I'm just not arguing with a fanboy. Yes, I could waste the next 4-5 hours arguing back and forth with you but ALL OF YOUR POINTS ARE BASED OFF YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE YOU IDIOT SO DON'T GET INTO WHAT IS PERSONAL AND NOT PERSONAL. CITE SOME ARTICLES YOU SELF APPOINTED REDNECK BEFORE THROWING OUT YOU'RE INTERNET "COME AT ME BRO!"

Talking with you isn't going to be a logical discussion. It's going to be an argument filled with personal experiences between two people who haven't met. That is the definition of a useless discussion.

Point is I'm doing what's smart for me, personally, and blocking your sad sorry ass. If you feel that's running go ahead, take the internet win and be done with it.

As I said before, enjoy your truck man. I'm going to enjoy both of mine.

    Bye.

I paid the price for my Tacoma because I wanted to drive it, not fix it, or flee for my life when it turns into a fireball.

Other trucks turn into fireballs? That's news too me? Source?

As for fixing it you may want to check the garage section of the site. Plenty of fixing going on with the Tacoma. Great truck, but you do have a few things you end up changing early especially if you end up working it or wheeling it.

People like you are why truck drivers get bad stereotypes.

    Funny
You act tough, but get extremely offended when someone disagrees with your viewpoint to the extent you have to block them so you can have your safe space.

Btw, learn proper grammar before you try an incorrectly correct someone else's grammar.
