Toyota you make some awesome vehicles but your dealerships are the worst

Toyotas Achilles heel is their dealerships. They pull some shady tactics on their customers and it gives Toyota a bad look in my opinion. They really need to have a come to Jesus meeting with their dealerships because you can have all the quality vehicles you want but if the buying experience is bad, you'll go elsewhere next time.

Case in point. I got a Tacoma bed mat with my Tacoma as part of the deal. Did the whole "we owe" sheet thing and salesman said "I'll call you in a couple days and you can come pick it up". Fine. Two weeks go buy and nothing. Figured he forgot which is no biggie. I call and ask for my salesman and am like "hey man it's Robert I hadn't heard from you about the bed mat and just wanted to follow up". His response? "Oh habe you called parts?" "No why would I? You said you'd call me". "Oh well let me check on that and I'll call you back". Haven't heard from him and won't. Now, keep in mind this guy was all over my ass about that damn survey from Toyota and how I need to give him good marks because it's "very important". Me like a fool did and now he's pulling the "who are you? What do you mean?" bull crap routine. He got his high marks and I got a piece of paper that's legally worthless and no mat. I'm sure it was somehow charged to me too even though they claimed it was "free". It'll be a long time before I buy another truck but when I do I'm going to tell them to shove the "we owe" sheet up their poop shoot and I'm going to give all bad marks on the survey. Sounds petty but damn I hate being bugged to death about it during the sales process and then when a promise was made to me, act like they don't know what I'm talking about. I love Tacomas but damn I hate a Toyota dealership. They're basically fancy side of the road buy here pay here lots. Rant over.

You need to talk to the general manager. I Oregon the "We Owe You" document is part of the legal contract so it's binding.

The general manager is just as shady as the rest of the dealership. His answer was "it's between you and your salesman, he has to order it".

I would go straight to the parts Department (don't talk to any bozo salesman) show them the I owe paperwork and they should be able to take care of you. Generally Toyota's parts departments are good taking care of problems like that.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
In most companies everyone hates the sales department and for good reason. Do this and the parts department will probably take care of it. Our dealers live by the customer survey. I always get everything that is owed me before I fill it out.

C9213249-10A6-47E2-8F23-E36445C90063.jpg I can’t agree with your title to this topic. My dealership is AMAZING!!! As far as the we owe sheet that’s a contract here in NC. If it’s on there you get it! Sounds like your salesman might be the issue and I guarantee if you can’t get this fixed through parts the GM will fix this! You should not have completed the survey...that’s the big thing for Toyota. I seems silly but that is the gospel to them!

I bought a car for my wife and when I looked at it in the morning I noticed a scratch on the hood. Car had maybe 30 miles. I called my salesman and he said let me check on something for you. I figured “bring it back.” Type thing...nope changed the car out! Exact same car delivered to my house, changed a couple pages and that’s it! Picture for proof! I never asked for that, or even considered that! My salesman treats me great, the GM sees me in for service and speaks for minutes on end. I love the place and it’s a very busy dealership so it’s not friendly because they are slow!

I understand you are upset and I would be also if that happened to me. I am sure there are some dishonest people working even at Toyota dealerships but they are not all like that. I have bought new cars from at least 6 different toyota dealerships in the last several years and each one has tried very hard to make me happy and take care of any problems or misunderstandings. You do have the "We owe you" paper and you should be able to get this resolved. If they cause you to much grief next time go purchase at another dealer, I promise you there are some good ones out there.

People are so weird. You're getting all worked up ranting online, plotting your future revenge years from now, and giving ominous warnings to Toyota about market share loss.... all over a $75 bed mat on a $30,000 truck

Feel better?? Now give their parts dept a call as they probably have the mat in stock, then show up with your due bill and go home with your new bed mat, may it be everything you had hoped for and more!

Doesn't that make it even worse though? When you spend a good chunk of money and they can't do the easy part and get him something that is probably sitting on the shelf? It's not like he is asking for special treatment or over the top service; just that they follow through on everything they agreed to. Seems really petty on their part to drag their feet and make an easy thing difficult.

More like $109 bed mat and a $25000 truck. It's not just this one experience, I had a bad experience with another Toyota dealership with my 2012 Tacoma. After 4 trips of them trying to fix my air conditioning under warranty I gave up and just took it to a shop where a guy fixed it in 1 hour. Cost me $200 but what good is a warranty if the people working on it are incompetent and giving you the run around. The last visit they told me "be here first thing in the morning and we will recharge the AC". I show up and they tell me "sorry it's too cold to recharge can you bring it back tomorrow?"lol

I know I sound petty but many of you on here don't have to experience Southeast Toyota dealerships, they really are bad. I'd love to go to Oregon or wherever and buy with no bs or anytning but that's just not the way it's done here in South Carolina. The bullshit is part of the charm with dealers here.lol

I called parts department but they don't keep them in stock. Said they could order one even though that's what I'd been waiting on. Claimed it would be here Wednesday.

Exactly. Let's say my trade in didn't have a tailgate but I promised them I'd bring it in a few days. 2 weeks go by and I never show or call. They have to run me down to ask about the tailgate and I'm like "what tailgate? Who is this? I'll call you back" and never do. Even though they gave me trade in value that included the tailgate I promised to bring.

fuck salesman, i dont fill out surveys and i dont put any stock in what they say. sell me the vehicle, fill out the paperwork for me and never talk to me again. u are literally nothing more than a middleman for me to get what i want. I dont know why anyone would ever take a salespersons, especially a vehicle one at their word.

Gotta say the worst part of buying a car is the sales man. I feel like they know less about their products than I do. They just want to sell to you and move on to the next warm body.

I also dislike the whole rate me a 10 B.S. I am going to give my honest feedback. If I felt like you were a 6, that is what you'll get. If it is "really important" to them, they will meet or exceed my expectations from the start and not tell me how important it is at the end of the sale.

This isn't a Toyota thing. This is dealerships in general. They are pure trash across the board.

They provide customers nothing and yet try to swindle you for as much as they can at every turn. They disgust me.

It's so obvious when you see the general managers of dealerships too. They are dripping with characteristics of a typical highly successful scam artist.

I detest dealerships so much I would for-go my factory warranty if I could bypass the dealership, have a reduced flat-rate purchase price and a 30 day return policy (with the necessary restrictions to stop people from abusing it of course). So basically just make car shopping like any other online purchase.

As others have mentioned, this is not only Toyota. I've purchased new or certified used cars from VW, BMW, Mazda, and Toyota dealers, and shopped at many more. Every car salesman I've ever met is full of shit, does not know the first thing about what they're selling, and/or a total asshole just for fun. Some are better, some are worse, and a lot of it has to do with your attitude and expectations when you walk in the door. The best experience I've had was actually Toyota in January here in Dallas. I walked in with a specific truck I saw online and gave the guy a number that I knew wouldn't result in hours of sales bullshit, but was still fair to me. He started playing games and asked what I would do if he couldn't get my price, and I started walking out. I got my price and left in under 2 hours with my truck. You might think a high end brand like BMW would be better but of the cars I've bought, that's the only one where the numbers on the contract that came out of the computer didn't add up to the total at the bottom. It was off by $100 that I pointed out and watched the guy change on the screen, then when I got home and added it up, the total was still including the $100. Integrity is a foreign concept to car dealers.

There is no reason whatsoever to have a dealership in 2018. They serve no purpose and Tesla's model is where things need to go. Not saying Tesla makes good cars, just the direct-to-consumer model is the way it should be. As it is, here in Texas, not only do I have a dealership middleman between me and Toyota, I also have a "distributor" taking another cut. Please tell me what value the distributor adds to this transaction.
