I'm coming up to my 30K service due date and have some questions about Toyotacare and what's included vs what's needed at those next 4 intervals. $299 does seem steep for 4 oil changes and tire rotations. What are the major investments coming up? What is expensive for them to check? I'm on the cusp of it, and generally like the service I get when bringing my truck in for dealer service. I change my own air filters (have a few times already) and am generally pretty handy. I don't love the additional work of having to pull off the skid plate first. I guess my calculus comes down to what's needed between 30 and 50K and what else should I be considering as part of necessary maintenance.unnamed.jpg

I got it but I made sure they changed the spark plugs at 30k miles. From what I have heard on this forum, not everyone who bought the $299 maintenance deal had the spark plugs included in that, even though they are technically part of the 30k service. Make sure they will do that for you, otherwise no, probably not worth it.

I used to work for a car dealership many years ago. Service contracts, extended warranties, paint/fabric protection, gap insurance are almost 100% profit for the dealership. This is what they mean by making profit on the "back end". I've never read an article that recommended purchasing any of these add ons. You just bought the most reliable vehicle on the planet, all you need to do is keep the oil changed, keep the tires properly inflated, and change the plugs/fluids per the owners manual and you will run that truck to over 300K.

If it includes the plugs like Shwaa said then its worth it. Otherwise, its not. Oil changes are real easy on these trucks. I like doing them myself, because the time it takes to bring the truck to the dealer, have them do the work, then drive home is too much of an inconvenience to me.

I spoke to corporate Toyota when I bought my truck and they said if I don't have the oil changed in my little 4 cylinder 4x4 at $70 and 2 hours of my time that there's a really good chance my motor would not be covered if something did happen because you can't prove what was actually put in the motor.

wait, what? are you saying he told you if you don't get your oil changed at the dealer for $70 then the motor wouldn't be covered if something happened to it?

That's what she said. And I said what if I have receipts? And she said there's no proof of what went into your motor.

Yikes. I wonder how many other dealerships operate on that philosophy.

EDIT- missed the part about Toyota "Corporate". Not a specific dealership.

    Yea, what @TacomaMike37 said. Disregard

That's what I thought when I bought my Dodge Dakota don't remember the year but it was some time ago. With one day left on the "warranty" my trans blew got a entire new trans out of it.
