Hi My battery is just about 2 1/2 years old. I am at 25,000 miles. Really don't need the dealer hassle - but will they warranty it or prorate it. It does test bad.
Called service at two different dealers and feel like I am talking with lawyers cause I can't get a straight answer.
Just need to know if it is worth dealing with them or just buy a new one ???? The money is for sure not going to break me.
    Thanks !!

Probably prorated but you have to take the truck in.
Also forgot that if you buy the battery over the counter it’s only warranted for a year.

If your vehicle is still covered under the original 3 year/36k mile warranty, there will be no prorate. Toyota will cover the battery. Prorate is typically not an option on the OEM battery that comes with the vehicle. My dealer does free battery tests. If yours tests bad, they will just replace it. If the dealer doesn’t know the policy on replacement of a new battery. Find another dealer that does. It’s pretty simple.

Also, over the counter batteries carry different warranties depending on the Toyota region you are in. In Central Atlantic Toyota the Truestart batteries carry an 84 month warranty with free replacement in the first two years, and prorated after that.

Battery warranty varies greatly from vehicle to vehicle. When you bought the truck you should have been given warranty papers which will tell you what’s covered. Some vehicles that info is in the OM. If you don’t have the information you’ll have to take the truck to a dealer. Just stop by the service department and see what they say.
It it were me I think I’d just replace it and be done with it.

I had the battery in my 2017 covered under warranty around the 2 year mark. Technically, it was covered under the emergency warranty clause since it crapped out over the weekend. I called Toyota to make sure I was doing everything necessary to get reimbursed. All they had me do was go to the dealership during the week to verify the alternator was good. Then they sent a check in the mail reimbursing me 100% for the replacement battery.

Dealer should replace it. Subaru reimbursed me after our battery left us stranded in YellowStone when the vehicle was 2 years old.
They were actually good about it sent me a copy of the check they were sending me while I was on the phone with them about it
and then I got a box full of swag for my troubles.

Took my battery in after it went bad at 2 years and they gave me a free replacement. In and out in less than 15 minutes.

Who makes the oem batteries? I noticed on the 4Runners the factory batteries say panosonic on the tacomas it’s just a black battery with no writing

Yep, I just took the battery in. Truck was dead in my driveway, I put it on the charger and it wouldn't charge, so I took it out and brought it to the dealer and they exchanged it for a new battery.

I believe it should be under warranty. You can always ask them to be sure. The replacement battery usually has a longer warranty for some reason. I purchased a generic battery from O'Reilly's for my Taco and that came with a 5 year warranty. I purchased a battery through the dealership for our 4Runner this past winter and I believe that also came with a 5 year warranty.

I think you are wise to not dwell on this, time is precious too.
I would buy the battery on the weekend or night, and make one attempt to get reimbursed,, either way, my truck wouldn't be down for a day waiting on the lubers at the dealer to make things worse.

Hi Chew You are very right !! I caught it in time - so no break downs or dash lights to make me crazy. Trucks been very good to me so far - so why bother with the little things. Job is all done on my time schedule. Thanks

Factory 12V batteries are 3 years / 36,000 miles (60,000 km) for all models with all battery types. Different warranties, pro-rata, etc., only come into play after the original battery has been replaced.

Funny that the dealers won't explain it that simple ?? But very much expected I guess.

If you go off-road, upgrade to a sealed AGM battery, no vents for acid to spill out of.
