Love my 265/75/16 Duratracs for those very same reasons. They also come with the 3 peak snow rating. Only wish they came in a 255/85/16.

Here is another problem due to snow. Had the Head Lights on tonight no snow coming down, no snow on the truck either. Had the Auto Dim on with the Brites on. Guess what reflective light off the snow on the road and some banks caused them to keep switching the high beams off and on! Even just snow on the road was doing it so I took it off auto dim and things went back to normal. Funny how little things screw up the Auto Controls. I just wanted to see if they dimed for cars but they dim for snow to even laying on the ground. Wife and I had a laugh, I said can't wait to post this and see what others say about why you using the auto dim on a road with snow on it??? Having fun now but this did and does happen.

Weight, I carry 2"x2'x2' cement tiles song with sand bags. Sand can be used for traction of need be.

Use was little of the nanny state driving electronics as possible in the winter.

It happens and not only with Tacomas but every vehicle. I have been driving 42 years and snow causes many challenges and every vehicle is different in the snow.

Sand has saved me and others several times in the past! That is how I got my 2 wheel drive Van un stuck used about 100 lbs for me and the 4x4 hooked to me to pull it out of the ditch.

I had a feature in my previous Subaru called "eyesight". They all do the same thing. Too much fog or anything that prevents it from scanning and it's going to stop working. My experience with tech like this is not good. I've found them to be more invasive when you don't want them to work, and when you need them, they don't work. The toyota version seems totally different than eyesight tho, and that's a good thing. I have no complaints about it in the Tacoma so far. And yes, the auto high beam is a pretty useless feature for that reason you mentioned OP. It's in the same boat. Sure, they can and will work, but don't expect it to impress you. Even going down a certain degree slope will set these things off.

I had to drive 90 miles this morning and the roads were pretty sketchy. The drive back in the loaner was actually very nice though. PNW gets it differently every year. I remember a winter a couple years ago we had the first snow the day before christmas, and it was a lot. This year so far seems a little warmer and I think it's finally starting to get into freezing for us.

I am finding the Tips and Tricks is a good read for over 60 things people have found to do or correct stuff wrong. Time to look under for Grease Zerk's if the drive shafts even have them plus check the U-Bolts on the Universal Joints. Boy 168+ pages of stuff to read but I still love my Toyota TRD! Anything I now find I am sure it will be in there some where. Man there are some real funny questions & answers in that section!

I have had the radar shut down when covered by snow both on my Tacoma and Hyundai. Winter driving is not so much as you but the other guy.
I did see one concerning post about cement tiles for weight, my only concern for any thing not secured in the box is what is the last thing you want going through your mind in case of an accident
A thought or the tile. As it could become a projectile.

I put these same tires on my truck 6 months ago and I am amazed at how good they are. Better than the stock Goodyears for sure, and they are snow rated.
Quieter which was a surprise as they are more aggressive, and I find the truck tracks straighter over road irregularities. I've also had the chance to test them in some seriously snowy conditions, and they work very good, highly recommend them!

At my age I feel I have the best of both worlds now. Going to pull the truck into the shop and check the drive shaft out just because of what I read here. Got a cool Tail Pipe tip to put on a little bling. To bad you have to wait so long to have the good life! I still like my Dodge not all Dodges nor all Tacoma's but these two are just right to me!DSCF7857.jpg

Coming home from buying the TRD we did pass each other a couple times! Tacoma TRD needs to do something about the Muffler Sound? Both are a V-6 with in 30 hp of each other but the Challenger sounds way better floored?? Can't explain it but if you heard the two you would understand what I mean. Both haul ass no problem passing if needed!! Now wish I had the Hood Scoop like the PRO Has on it!

I have a Flowmaster Super 40 on mine and its sounds fantastic. Loud without being obnoxious and no drone in the cab. I had a Magnaflow SS on my 2016 which sounded good but nowhere near loud enough.

Flow Masters are nice used them on my 454 CID loved the sound when floored but a nice rumble at idle. So they sound good on the TRD too? Have to wait a while on that need to convince the Wife I NEED Them since it is Her Truck? There is a lot of Pipe under a Challenger hate to have to replace it!! Noticed the TRD had one tail pipe when I was under it. The Quality of both systems is Super Nice way better then the older cars had! DSCF7885.jpg DSCF7888.jpg DSCF7882.jpg Challenger Frame.jpg

Looks good but yep, it's all in the tires. I live in Tahoe and we run Blizzaks or General Altimax Arctics, sometimes studded. Night and day over all the ATs like K02s or whatever. Those are summer tires here or what people from the flat lands come up with.
