I’ve never heard of a Dealer in So.Cal. Doing this, it sounds like a great deal!

It’s not through Toyota and it’s not nationwide. It’s through that specific dealer, it’s a common dealer sales tactic. Despite whatever they tell you.

I'll have to dig out my paperwork but I'm pretty sure mine was similar to this... instead of at 75,000 miles I think mine said I have to have the dealer where I bought it look at it every 7 years!

Now that I think about it, it may have said every 7 years for mine as well and I have 75,000 miles in my mind. It's been a year since I read it. :bananadead: I'm going to check mine this evening as well.

Some folks are going to be in for a rude awakening down the road on this shit. Seriously.

Does anyone really think when that engine or trans eats itself @ 2 or 300K, that you're just gonna pick up the phone and have the dealer come scoop it up the truck for a free rebuild?
Not gonna happen. Something you did wrong is going to be the culprit, and if you want a running vehicle back, you're going to pay for it.

Correct, these "warranties" are financed by the owner, when having to use that particular dealer's suggested service. The dealer WILL make their money back and more,,,,, the house always wins.

I would have to agree with this as that’s basically the exact same thing I thought when my dealer told me about it. But then..... he handed me verified and detailed paperwork that outlined the unlimited warranty with their information all over it also claiming zero deductible. It cost me nothing extra so I’m glad it’s there.

Despite the lifetime warranty, I hope I never have to use it. On top of that, it’s very unlikely I’ll own this truck for more than 5 years as I have yet to own a vehicle that king my entire life and haven’t had a vehicle over 100k miles in over 10 years now. Either way time will tell.

"Do I have to have all my service completed at your dealership?

No. Our Service Department will certainly exceed your expectations but you are not required to service here. To maintain the Warranty, you must perform the recommended schedule maintenance and keep your records."

I keep excellent service and maintenance records anyway so looks like I don't have to use their service department.
Hey I get it, it's one of those things that people simply can't fathom - and I don't 100% buy into it either - but then this didn't figure into my buying decision at this particular dealer either.
I agree with you the house always wins and dealers are in existence to make money on every single sale - and so does this dealer with every single vehicle and every single extended warranty, accessory and vehicle servicing they do. So that's why I think this is a generally effective hook for them to get people in their door - as opposed to the guy across town who might not offer it - and then push other service/warranty plans, doo-dads, coatings etc...
Besides, It's probably an extremely low percentage of buyers who own their Toyota long enough for engine/drivetrain problems to surface past the initial factory warranty and this warranty is non-transferable so the average Joe Blow owns his truck for 4-6 years, or whatever, then trades/sells it and this warranty goes away.
House/Dealer sells vehicle, average guy puts a hundred thousand or so on it, trades it in, warranty goes away....and it's exactly as you said, House/Dealer wins.

I just bought a 21 ORD from Robert’s Toyota in Nashville TN area and they have a similar deal. I’ll post photos of the thing once I get paper work from them in day or two as the transaction was all over email and they delivered truck to my home and paperwork went back to dealer for processing. I read over the warranty I signed quickly and the gist of it was you have to take your truck in to a dealer for every single service. Miss a single service window and basically it’s voided. As prior posters mentioned there are probably other out clauses as well.

My brother in law tells me he had a significant driven train component replaced through one of these on his tundra recently...but he’s generally full of sh*+. I don’t recall the specifics but I’m assuming I never see a penny of benefit from the warranty. That said you never know. Will post a photo of all the specifics shortly.

There’s an old saying and it would be best to heed this

“There is no such thing as a free lunch” It’s hard enough finding a reputable vehicle aftermarket warranty contract that’s really on the up and up. The real ones don’t need to advertise, they are offered through credit unions and some actual unions such as AFL CIO, steel workers, Transportation workers, and some police and firefighters.

there was another thread here today about extended warranties and all the usual suspects just parroted each other, I suspect because they’ve never dealt with an honest company so to them everything is bad. Very shortsighted it’s like saying every painter is a drunk. Good luck with that lifetime warranty keep meticulous records. A local dealer did free oil changes and wiper blades for life. That worked for a couple years then they required us to make appointments and leave the vehicle with them. As I said there’s no free lunch.

I'd get that in writing (from service manager, or whomever is actually able to make that call, the finance guy won't be in the shop to help later on) their recommended service is almost always the hitch. Unfortunately you won't know til it's too late.
I'm not arguing here, you might just have the one any and only free lunch.

Damn, and I thought my local dealership's 1,000,000 mile warranty was impressive. I don't know the details of that though because I didn't buy from them.

I wonder if the dealer has a deal with a warranty company where they pay a fee for every vehicle they sell to provide this service. Just like some home sellers provide a home warranty when they sell their house. Years ago I sold a house and my realtor suggested this I think I paid $500 and it was a selling point.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Dealer I got mine from does a similar thing but on powertrain. They list specifically what is covered for a lifetime; no catch on getting it serviced there. Dealer probably has some sort of third party insurance where they'd get reimbursed sort of like having one of those awesome extended car warranties.

I have no doubt they'll make their money back on all the non-covered parts they would magically have to replace. That's provided they honor/agree on a claim in the first place. How many people here have struggled just getting dealer to honor the factory B2B? As with any warranty, it's only as good as the party that covers it.

At the end of the day that is NOT a factory warranty. It’s just a dealer sales incentive for you to buy from them instead.
That is what we call “lagniappe” down here on the gulf coast

The catch with lifetime warranties from dealerships is that u need to do all services with them and on time to keep the lifetime warranty or it becomes void . Harley dealership do these also .
