Toyota's Respone to Aftermarket Grab Handle

To be fair, I’d get one too, but I’ve been wheeling around in my FJ since 2008 and grab my steering wheel when needing additional assistance and have had zero issues with steering wheel performance, etc. (knock on wood). Therefore the juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

However, I do like the mod and understand it’s appeal.

 

Yeah, and? Im pretty sure everyone here knows that when you modify something it changes how the thing works. Will it prevent the airbag from deploying? no, will effect the airbag deployment? also probably not. Will putting a plate bumper on your truck effect the airbag sensors? could be, will putting aftermarket grills cause issues with the TSS sensor in the front? toyota says yes. We all do these things and are well aware that it may adversely effect the item we are modifying.

Im wondering why you are on this crusade to make sure everyone knows this?

If you read all my posts then you'd know I have a family member severely injured in a crash. One bright spot he was able to sue the tire company and get money to pay for over millions of dolars of medical costs.

Installing the aftermarket grab handle relinquishes Toyota Motor Corporation of liabilities associated with the driver side curtain airbag not deploying properly in the event of a crash causing injury to the driver.

That’s a liability I am not willing to negate for Toyota.

I can speak to the plate bumper... it will effect it ZERO! (I’ve shared this before... a paid shuttle service moved my truck for me...)

I'm sorry about your family member which was clearly a TIRE related issue, NOT a driver side grab handle.

WE GET IT, DON'T DO THE MOD.

What posts specifically? You posted in 4 or 5 threads now on this same topic. In all of them did anyone ask you to negate or assure anything?

 

Jesus, I dont think anything would stop the sensors from going off in that crash. But toyota does say that aftermarket bumpers can adversely effect the trucks safety systems... but im still going to do it!

 

So where they faulty tires? were they OEM tires? Yeah toyota doesnt have to cover the airbag for faulty deployment if its deemed the fault of the handle, but im sure who ever made your family members car didnt have to take responsibility for the tires either. Do you have a thread against tires and how they could cause massive injury?


I wont install this handle because I dont need it. But I did replace my front grill, install a plate bumper and put in a lift. 2 of those things are said by toyota to cause TSS to not work right. It works just fine with these, but its a way out of liability for toyota, Especially after their whole floor mat issue.

 

This is a prime example of the biggest problem we have in the world at the moment.

For the same reason the person with a crushed foot doesn't get workman's comp because he wasn't wearing a hardhat.

 

This same thing applies to those seat spacers I see a lot of people installing...
