Toyota's take on a howling differential in a '14, it's normal... Huh?

There had been a TSB out for a rear diff that howls between 50 and 60 mph either accelerating or decelerating since 2008. Apparently they are tired of changing ring and opinions in previous years since they now tell their dealers that it's "normal operation".

Both my 2013 and now my 2014 howl like this, I was hoping to get my '14 fixed. The dealer told me to bring it in and they will confirm that it has the problem, it sounds like that's all that they will do, IMO this is BS, but we'll see where it goes.

Although it's a minor annoyance, I hear that getting it fixed quiets the rid over all.

Most abnormal things are normal at the stealership until it actually breaks, from what i have experienced anyways.

I would not define it as a howl but every single Toyota pickup I ever owned had a slight diff noise at "float" no load at highway speeds. My first one was a 1980 my 2011 does it, it only has about 60K did it from new the 97 only had 285K on it and all the rest at least 200K it's pretty normal for a rear drive vehicle. A bad diff will howl on acceleration or coast and be pretty loud.

Mine does howl on a coast and only between 50-60 mph. It seems worse when hot and with a load on the back like a trailer pushing you.

Now at 22k it continues to piss me off. Thanks for the moly suggestion, I may try that.
