Has anyone taken their Tacoma to ToyoTechs in Chamblee? I have met one person who had a good experience with taking his 2nd Gen Tacoma for routine maintenance. I'm curious to know if other Tacoma owners in the metro area have also had a good experience at this shop.

Yeah, good spot. Used them once when I had a 1st gen. They were honest and affordable.

Thanks for sharing your experience with ToyoTechs. My truck will need some work done in the a few months. I need to find an independent shop with a good reputation.

They are fantastic. I own a 2004 Tacoma 4x4 with 235k miles. It has been to the Rockies four times since I bought it, and they are the reason I'd go anywhere without hesitation. They never upsell; they down-sell me every time I visit. For example, I will ask for a brake fluid change, and they will tell me it's unnecessary because they've examined the quality of the fluid.

    "Take my money!"

    "No"

Wow! Not many shops will tell you "that's not necessary"! Looking forward to taking my truck to this shop.

Another vote for ToyoTechs. I've had 2 pre-purchase inspections there, they only charged me for one though. I've taken my truck there after a dealer screwed it up, they fixed the issue and didn't charge me.

    Another Toyotechs-affirming update:

Last week, I priced a strut replacement for which I was providing pre-assembled struts, and Toyotechs quoted me $450. I felt that $450 to remove and replace eight nuts and two bolts was way too expensive, so I watched a YouTube video and went for it.

After several crippling hours spent on the ground with a pry bar trying to get those stupid bottom bolts aligned and shoved in, $450 seemed pretty darn fair and reasonable, LOL.

Changing a strut for $450 is robbery. That's an hour long job max....

I hear ya, and I felt like that was a lot, too. But as a solo guy with little experience wrenchin', I far exceeded that one hour.

The right youtube videos will teach you everything. Now that you've done one, they only get easier.

Toyotechs is great, and they are pretty quick comparatively. I wish they were easier for me to get to, or I’d take my truck there more often. I’m trying Lextechs in Decatur, since it’s down the road from me, but wish I would’ve taken it to toyotechs.

My sister in law took her Lexus by there for a once over while she was away at work…

$4980 for a timing belt job
$2000 to replace struts that weren’t broke
$100 to replace air filter and cabin filter
    $320 for brake job
    $1500 for drive shaft repair….wtf?
    The list goes on

She called me about all this and I told her to just get the brakes done. I see this place all the time going to work, PDK, and wondered about it. Can honestly say I will never use them for anything, especially based on timing belt price. Highway robbery in my minds eye.

That looks like a "we don't want the job quote but if you're dumb enough to pay it we'll do it" type quote....

I was a mechanic in a past life so I sorta get this. The shop I was at had big boy balls though and would say we’re not interested and recommend another shop. Instead, these guys are willingly looking at taking advantage of a 60 year old single lady. Just my opinion though.

i priced out a regear and they were about 1500 higher than another shop for the same work and the timeline was a few days longer. I dont think they wanted to do the work. Those jobs are best left to a specialty shop

    You're running 4.88 gears for a 31.5 inch tire?

That seems like so much gear for that size tire. You track racing that thing haha. Why all the gear when you got the extra power too? Even without the boost 4.88's seem like overkill for a 31.5 inch tire. Are you planning to move to at min 33's in the future?

according to the math, (i started out with 245 size tires and moved to 265) i think that put me to an equivalent rear gear ratio of low 4's to keep it the same. 4.88 was what i settled on and then added the SC because more power. It gets off the line quickly but not much of a racer. Always an option to move bigger but no plans in the future. i have it just about how i want it.

Are your RPMs not too high at highway speed in the 75 to 80 zone?
