Yep. And it is beyond my control, but, as usual, I need to solve it.

I can't afford to heat with wood.

I grew up on doing it. The time investment....
IF I could get away with an outdoor wood boiler, I'd seriously consider it.
    I'm hydro-air, and IDHW here...

Pellet stove, I didn’t use a drip of oil to heat the house last year, drained the baseboards and only use it for hot water.

I went through about 2 tons of pellets, about 600 bucks.

Never gonna happen. I got this place so cheap because the previous owners did that. Then it froze. Only 1 place to put a Pellet stove, and it just ends up heating that one room.. and basically making that one room useless. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough.

Never gonna use pellets for heat. No real way to effectively do that in this place. Plus, again, time.

As it is, I get bitched at for the house being so cold during the winter.

Only way I'm getting off oil, is NaGas.
Im content with being down to 100-140gals for heat and hot water for a family of 5. If I can get some more windows done, it'll be even better. As I've added spray foam during renovation, it has helped tremendously.

I designed my system to be "dual fuel"... 2 heat pumps, one for each air handler, back up by oil.
But, when I went to get my outdoor units.. availability was.... a problem. So, it is currently just hot water, and regular a/c. May, or may not ever change them out to heat pump.

I'm content with the system. It's the rest of the house I struggle with.
