You can run 285/70/17s or 285/75s with minor rubbing if you mall crawl. If your going to offroad you will need to do some trimming. If you do a 3 inch lift there is a 50% you will need aftermarket UCAs for a good alignment. Light racing are the cheapest.

Also aftermarket rims with different back spacing or new ucas will be required or the tires will rub the ucas

Thanks. This is my daily driver, but I like to go off-roading whenever I can. Nothing crazy or high speed, light rock-crawling and mudding mostly. What determines if I need the aftermarket UCA's?

Talk to toytec, when I did about the 5100's they told me that to go more than 1" in the rear would cause the rear 5100's to not fit up nicely. They recommended to go a different route to lift more than 1" in the rear when I talked to them.

However there are probably guys on here that would say otherwise.

With 3" you will need new UCA's or learn to live with your truck being out of alignment.

In hindsight, I wish I had gone with 2.5" in the front and kept my stock UCA's and $500, rather than going with new UCA's.

Well the first thing is probably rub. If you run the stock rim with a 4.5 backspace the 285s will rub the stock ucas. You need a rim with less back space or aftermarket ucas cuz they wont rub. Next factor is the stock ucas wont always allow for a decent alignment numbers. If you dont care how your tires wear or pulling to one side then it doesnt matter.

Rims and tires , exhaust , stereo , Bhlm ,Changed carpet to black from grey. toytec ultimate lift kit. Allpro front bumper and light bar. In process of blacking out interior. Otrattw switches, black vinyl armrest mod, clazzio leather seat covers with heaters, flowmaster dual exhaust, hornblasters train horns,
That's what I have on my truck. Love the ride . Better than stock. As mentioned before, the tire size is going to depend on the rim back spacing. I'm running 275/70/17 and my tires hit the mudflaps. I'm at 2.5 lift in front, alignment is good and my cv joints are happy.

Took my mudflaps off last week. Sick of them rubbing on everything that's 1" higher than the ground when I'm out wheelin. ;)

I have some extra weight on the front end of my Tacoma, so would it be safe to assume that the 3" lift up front would actually net me a little less and if so then I wouldn't need aftermarket UCA's?

    BAMF LCA skids +24lbs
AllPro front and trans skid +52lbs
Westin Bull Bar+30-40lbs ... to be replaced eventually with a full off road bumper

New uca's should be factored into any lift over 2" in my opinion. Especially if you wheel. Can't split hairs when it comes to proper drivability of your truck. It amazes me the amount of money we all spend on lifts and then shortchange ourselves by using stock uca's. They're a key component in proper articulation and alignment of the front end after raising it.

forgo the diff drop, and get yourself an ECGS bushing for the front diff.... you are going to need it regardless.

This is the same lift I have on my truck....along with LR uppers. I was running ATX wheels with 4.5" of back spacing with 285/70/15's with no rubbing during normal driving. I just went to a set of stock TRD sport wheels with the same tires. Had to put on spidertrax to avoid rubbing. Once installed....still no rubbing.

Do some research on here about driveline vibrations after the lift. A lot of guys end up with it. Just be prepared, there might be some messing around with carrier bearing drop and axle shims.

Spend the $$ and get UCA's. Its worth it. I bought that same lift and ended up getting Total Chaos UCA's. My truck has 62,000 on the odometer and no problems thus far. The diff issue often spoken about is with these trucks, anything over about 1" of lift SOME people experience vibration issues that ends up being the needle bearing in the front diff that goes bad. Expensive fix if u can't do it yourself, but its not a hard job. There is a solution from ECGS that helps prevent the issue. Lots of threads on here about it.

i picture a group of broke college kids when i see people advising to stick with the stock uca's. if you lift over 2" (2.5" max) just budget them into the price of the lift.
they're pricey but literally nothing has changed in the handling of my truck since i lifted it and installed TC uca's. try saying that with your alignment out of whack... it'll handle like a shopping cart
