Im running the toytec boss coils to accommodate a front bumper and winch. Got the bumper (pelfreybuilt) but haven't got the winch yet. I don't know if this is normal but this truck feels like a damn tractor. I know a lift is going to stiffen up the ride some but really considering something else. On gradual dips it's not bad but if you hit a steep drop off or step up it's freakin solid, no give at all. Any recommendations, ideas, advice would be greatly appreciated.IMG_20180815_210753_017.jpg

You will bend a rim before those coils let you down. I was considering steelies myself cause its one less thing to worry about when I'm off roading. I'm looking at the southern style winch bumper and a warn wench. the toytec 3"lift and coilovers we have should handle it easily.

What spring rates are you running? If you're running 700lb coils that's likely too much to retain a soft ride. Also, what was your resulting lift? How much preload do you have set on the coils? I'm wondering if you've eliminated too much of your down-travel due to too much lift and your ride is suffering.

im running the 650 coils. the preload may be the issue as I have them maxed out to get 3 inches of lift.

Damn thats why, id invest in 14in 700lbs springs it would smooth it right out.

More preload = more shit ride quality

I called toytec and they said I should be at maximum 23 inches or less from fender to center of hub. I will check when I get home this evening.

You’re probably around 24” since it seems like most 3” lifts are only suggested to be set to max 2.5”.

the guy said 23" is around 1.5 which didn't sound right to me. I asked him what they are set at from factory, he said 1.5. I think I remember asking the same question when I ordered them and they said they were preset at 2.5...

23 on both sides? The passenger side is typically much higher than the driver side unless you've leveled to compensate. Maybe try taking some pre-load out?

I have a '15 AC, v6, with a topper and a littler weight in the back. Front skid and sliders. Toytec 2.0 w/ 600# springs. Slight downhill to the driver front, and driver measures 22.5" and passenger is 23".

Was stiff without the skid and sliders but it felt much better than the base stock suspension I had. I'm happy for what it costs, would probably take the sway bar off if it wasn't such a long commute daily for me.

Look up the compressed and extended lengths of the struts. The struts may be to short and not letting the spring unload, I had that issue with Rancho 9000's on 800lb springs. When I switched struts, the measurement from center of hub to fender actually increased by 3/4 of an inch, that's how much the struts were constricting the coils. If your running 3" of lift with struts designed for 2" -2.5" lift, that will happen.

Cheapest thing to try, in my opinion would be strut extension's and move the coil base down some. (I think those are adjustable, correct?)

You are correct, my passenger is 23 and driver is 22 1/2ish. I gotta say it's a relief to know this is normal. I thought it was because my truck was in an accident. By taking out preload I am essentially lowering the truck right?

Not necessarily, It depends on the length and spring rate of the coil. With OEM coils, yes it will lower the truck. It all just depends on the specs of your coils. I suspect, (not knowing specs on coils and struts) that the struts are what is limiting the coil.

In other words, at rest, in your driveway, the strut is already maxed out compressing the coil and stopping it it from any down travel, so when you hit a bump the coil can't extend any more Vs, normally the weight of the truck is what keeps coil compressed at rest, but when you hit a bump, the suspension can flex, the strut is not maxed out, it can extend longer, which allows the coil to unload (get longer) and absorb the hit. Make sense?
