I went with Boss 2.5 w/o resi., AAL and SPC UCAs. Love the ride, little stiffer than TRD sport stock. I'll post some better pics.

Ease up on the inflamitory commentary or you'll earn a vacation from the site.

Both of our comments were directed as general knowledge and education about shocks and usage. Hence the reason I commented about definition of weekend warrior. Only the OP had his own definition. You on the other hand seem to take everything personal.

And I damn sure don't live in the desert and don't own a race truck. Nobody is talking shit about your bilsteins. Like I said before, oil breaks down from heat. Outfit your rig for overlanding and it's easy to push over 6500 lbs on a truck that comes from the factory at 4300. The more weight, the thicker the valving you need, the faster the oil breaks down.

Guys it's all good. I appreciate everyone looking out for my best interest, we just have different perspectives which are hard to share on the internet.
I have a jeep for my rock crawling and slow trail running. The Tacoma while used to tow and haul dirt bikes gets pretty hard desert use. if you've been through the washes pegging the rev limiter you'll know the Shocks are working their lil tears off. This is why I don't mind spending a lil coin to keep it like that. But I do agree that $1200 and up 2.5" with reservoirs is a stretch for my purpose and probably 90% of the vehicles on the road with them. Sure are pretty though.
I am good with the suggestion of "normal" shocks as they would fit my bill 90% of the time, but I am afraid of how disapointed I may be when that play hard 10% comes around. As you see in my avatar, I am not afraid to fly. Lol

Appreciate all the advice and guidance!

You butthurt for getting called out as a mod? Just because you're a mod doesn't mean you can't get called out.

Sorry I don't fit into the TW mold as an "overlander" that throws a parts catalog at my truck and actually thinks independently

I've used Downsouth for this on my old SAW 2.0s that I had on my 1st gen

Best decision ever...they rebuilt and tuned them perfectly for my needs and truck

Not at all. I would have said the same thing to anyone that said "swinging your nuts off each other" directed at me or any other member of the site. We are a community, no need for that crap here.

    And eat a fucking snickers.

Uhhhh, for me it's normally not just a few days. But add full steel skids, plate bumpers, sliders, 35's, beadlocks, full sized spare, winch, spare driveshaft, two spare cvs, 8 gallons of gas, 10 gallons of water, recovery gear, 10 pound co2 tank, 5 lb propane tank, dual batteries, hi lift, bed rack, RTT, axe, shovel, chainsaw, a metric shit ton of beer, and a little bit of food...yeah. It adds up quick. My truck is 6200 without my fridge loaded with food and beverages.

Back to OP's truck there's not much point in throwing $1k coilovers on a truck with worn out leaf springs and lift shackles unless the rear end will be caught up quickly to meet the level of performance capable in the front. I'd rather have billies all around with a decent leaf pack than kings in front and saggy stock leafs with a lift shackle. Unless OP adds to his budget for suspension and tires I don't see the point in buying expensive coilovers.

If he can come up with money for a new setup in the rear within a reasonable timeframe then by all means go for good equipment in front because it has to be addressed now. Other than that shocks (oil in the case of rebuildable ones) seem to be like any other consumable item - use, notice need for update for whatever reason - leaking, fade, stiff / soft ride and address when noticed.

Thanks to guys with knowledge of this stuff. I don't want to be someone that goes off of what other people have written if they don't have experience. My experience in this is my 2nd gen has a fully built mid travel front and stock rear and it sucks going over bumps when the front can take it and then you pay in the rear literally lol. I built this truck out of necessity on getting a good deal on the front and stopped building it when I bought my first gen, but I'll be working out the rear suspension first on that one because both need to be addressed and I know how lame it is having a front that can way out perform the rear.

I am looking at leaves in near future. Problem is finding some that do not lift back too much and can carry weight ok enough for trailer. May have to go custom route there?
I hear what your saying and not to discount it, but that is next chapter of project. Just need to get front end on road again and do not want to do it twice in a short time span.

Gotchya. When some people say their budget is xxx it means for the next few years. I figured if you didn't have to wait too too long then go all in on the front now and deal with the rear end until your bank account is recovered lol. There's probably something out there for you from one of the big vendors that wouldn't necessitate you going with a custom pack. Then again if you've got the $$$$ and don't find anything that works for you...

Wife gave me approval to buy the $1500 remote reservoir foxes the local shop was trying to sell us,but get this, I didn't!! I just do not need that much shock.
I think we have narrowed it down to king 2.5's as a nice medium.
Waiting until really next week though as I may have found some donor saw's to possibly rebuild mine.

I have the toytec coilovers with bilstein shocks. They are excellent and ride fantastic. I thunder this poor truck and they soak up the abuse well. I've had them since 2012. Low miles on them but not treated well. The bushings are showing wear. Pre load is easy to adjust.

To be honest I wish I put the money from this into a SAS swap. If you want to stay with IFS, have ample adjustment and fantastic absorption these are great.

For my needs I should have just went to the wrecker yard.

Thanks for the feedback. The boss suspension looks nice but for a little more I can get kings. I have concerns about the mounts on the boss setup as I have seen pictures of failures.
I feel the billet of the kings beats the steel body and welds of the boss set up in terms of strength.
This is just my opinion and may be valid or not?

Just thought I would post what I am stuck driving until I get Tacoma off jack stands. Two different beast for sure.

What do you mean by mounts? The reservoir mounts? I just got some $10 weld on ones from 4wheel parts. Not a big deal.

If you're talking about the end caps then perhaps if you're going to be bashing on your suspension a lot then that could be a concern.

Lower shock mount. Reservoirs are pretty nicely secured from what I seen.
