The older BMW systems could be triggered if you did burnouts with the M3s, lol, was tied into the ABS also and tried to read rolling diameter and sense the difference, Lol...

Rich, do you know if my steel wheel sensors from my 2012 will work in some after market wheels? If I knew it was going to be cheaper for me to try and find after market wheels in say 17" and just use my stock sensors it sure might make things a little easier,

Like I mentioned before, you can flip the sensors 180 and they'll fit the alloys, but any future tire installer needs to be made aware of that or he'll snap the sensors when he breaks the bead down removing the old tire.

'06 has TPMS, mine does. Different system and sensors for '07+ though.

Is yours "real" with sending units, or is it like the one on my wife's '04 Rav4 that "guesses" relative inflation by using the wheel speed data from the ABS computer?

It is Direct TPMS, or "real" as you are calling it. The type that uses wheel speed is known as Indirect. I'm not exactly sure what the difference is between the '06 TPMS and '07+, but the sensors have different part numbers, and IIRC, disabling the system takes a different method. According to this site, all Tacoma TPMS systems are made by Pacific.

Interesting. I do recall the change in the '06 disabling procedure.

I really wish that there were a way for the Utragauge to display the actual pressure from the sensors. I know the ECU has it.

The TPMS has never gone off in my truck. It's an 07. The light does come on at the very start of the start with all the other lights, so i believe it's working. I even got new tires put in a couple of years ago.
