New Honda Civics don't have traditional rim sensors. They go by tire rotation. Some European cars do, also.

No battery operated sensors to replace. :)

    *Update*

The wife and I took a 12 mile hike (out and back) around the Turquoise Lake trail, nearly felt like dying and we both were pretty sore and hit the bed early around 8:30.
We woke up pretty early for vacation and drove into Leadville which was about a 15 or 20 min drive......
The lake area is around 11k-ish feet above sea level and Leadville is around 10 something.
About 10 min into the drive I noticed all 4 sensors were now showing their correct PSI and not dashes.
This seems to me to indicate that it isn't an issue with any one individual sensor.
Not sure what's up, but if it took the system some time to get re-aclimated it seems to have come around.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against progress. As I said, I use the tech in my truck without depending on it. What I do have a problem with, is .gov mandating sh$t because people are too stupid to perform simple checks that just might help them stay alive (or others in the public that they may endanger). Up until the late '60s or early '70s, there was an expectation in this country of knowing how to take care of yourself. Too many people want someone else to do that for them.

Question from stupid people. How do you detect a leak while doing 80+ mph on the cross country trip?

Glad to hear it, Brian. Like I said, just buy a bicycle pump & a decent gauge. Then you can be sure.

    Have a great day :)

Yeah, I never figured it would be the end of days with no TPMS, but knowing it's not some centralized system issue than might have cost me my first born the fix, makes me feel much more at ease.

It was never about feeling uneasy without the system monitoring things, it was always about not knowing what was wrong with the system, and the possibility of an exorbitant repair expense.

Dunno, maybe check your tires every time you stop? If your tires are going down that much in two hours it's probably because you hit something, which means, you should've stopped and checked your tires. Tires don't lose that much pressure that fast for no good reason.

How in the hell did the human race drive cars for a hundred years without TPMS? And don't give me this crap that people didn't drive as fast, that's BS! Back when I was a kid, speed limits were 75 on sh$tty 2 lane roads with even sh$ttier bias-ply tires (tubed, no less). There were wrecks and blowouts back then, but not because they were driving around for weeks severely underinflated. Back then, most (all?) gas stations would check your tires while they pumped your gas.

Before I retired, I was a truck driver. I would almost daily see someone driving around on an underinflated tire.

I would be willing to say that a good portion of the problems people have with their vehicles are self induced.

That happened to my truck this past winter on a super cold day, after a few hours of driving it returned to normal and hasn't occurred again.

the receiver is up on the roof. Some addons can simply block the reception + other circumstances

So far so good. It seems Sandy has adapted to the high elevation around here. We'll be here till the 3rd so regardless of what happens until then, I'll keep an eye on things.

The tire PSI has never been in question honestly as the tires themselves have maintained the correct pressure throughout the trip no matter what the TPMS has registered.

You don't need to hit something to mess you tire. You could have gotten a nail in one state and 300 miles later the tire develops a leak.
I use the monitor to periodically check on tires while I'm driving and I have driven 400 miles straight before pulling over to fill up on many occasions. Even done on tacoma a few times.
I know that alot long haul truck owners put tpms system (if not equipped) to have ability toonitor tire condition (psi, temp) while hauling for hours.

Yes... TPMS has saved my bacon on two occasions. Once when I was meeting several friends for a camping trip to the desert my TPMS identified a leak and I was able to get a screw removed and repaired before the trip. Second was a summer trip to UT. My TPMS warning flashed just before a long desert stretch where I could have been stranded in 120 degree heat. I stopped immediately and had a puncture repaired and was on the road within an hour.

You can feel it. Most people are not wise enough too anymore. And this will probably offend at least half the population of the world, but women and beta men can drive a vehicle making awful noises forever without checking on it. Not every woman of course, but the majority.

Yeah, asking a serious question on TW can usually yield a real answer, followed by pages and pages of dumbgeon material.
Fortunately no one got it off the rails before I got the answer I was looking for.
