I've got aftermarket wheels and tires on that don't fit the TPMS sensors and the stock spare. My light is always coming on. When I have a day to do some truck mods I'm gonna pull the cluster and cover the light.

As for taking the sensor out because topping off the spare is a hassle, it's a way bigger hassle to have a flat on the side of the highway and put on a spare tire that turns out to also be flat, but hey... I never check mine but I have a pump behind the seat.

If he leaves the sensor in the spare the light will still come on as the system will be searching for the registered sensors which would be in the steel wheels. (sensors have id's programmed to the truck)
