The battery in at least one of your sensors is bad. Buy new sensors and put the wiring back to stock. Problem solved.

I don't understand what is so hard about this. Your factory sensors lasted 12 years, a new set will cost you about $80. That works out to less than $7/year to have working sensors. Guys bitch about $80 every decade for working sensors but think nothing of spending $800-$1200 every 3 years or so for new tires. You're spending more than that for a tank of gas right now.

I don't know if this applies to you but in NH, if it's standard equipment in the truck, it needs to be working. Also, no lights can be illuminated..

If the light is off, is it working or is it not working?:D
Do they scan each tire for a signal? Or only if the light is on?

I half serious to the answer, as I don’t have any inspection in my state.
I’m not sure if it’s because half of the vehicles here would fail, or my state still thinks we’re smart enough to take care of ourself. If I were to guess, it because half would fail, and no one would fix their cars. And they’d still drive until they were arrested. In which case, the jails would fill up and only cost the state more money. I’m not kidding.

Check the PSI in the spare sometimes it’s as easy as that :D

Cheap eBay sensors are just about as scary as having the light on.
I’d check the reviews first. I’ve been the cheap route. Some times it pays, other times it doesn’t.
I don’t have a tire machine, so I’d be put sensors and break down + mounting.
    Basically another $100.

They wouldn’t scan each tire, just check the dash for warning lights.

If you had a fog light out and took out the other on the way to get it inspected, they would tell you both fogs need to be working cause it’s original equipment to the vehicle …

True story, it’s New Year’s Day I’m driving back home about 300 miles into a semi rural area and the TPMS light comes on I got enough early warning to prevent a blow out. It also gives you a heads up on slow leaks so I don’t have a problem maintaining the system. I got sensors through tire rack because they have a nationwide warranty.

I really like having TPMS, but not the lame cheap way Toyota implemented it with one light that doesn't tell you which tire is low. It is way better with something like a ScanGauge 2 programmed to read individual tire pressures so if you get the light, you can easily scroll through to find the problem child. It is a bit of a hassle to set up and program the Xcodes the first time, but only takes a bit more time than checking your tires with a gage once. ScanGauge reports TP1, 2, 3 and 4 so to identify the correct tire, you need to bleed some air and then name that data field appropriately. I use the convention PLF (pressure, left front), PRF, PLR, PRR. Then when you rotate tires, you can rename them again with takes a couple of minutes, or just make a note of the swap.

The other benefit is that you don't have to randomly check your tire pressures. I leave one of the four ScanGauge 2 data fields set to one of the tire pressures. In the absence of a problem all the tires leak down about the same, so it is easy to see when you need to air up your tires.
