So I bought my taco last October and installed winter tires on it as soon as possible. I decided to save a couple bucks and not get pressure sensors installed in the tires. Since the winters went on, my TPMS light has been illuminated on my dash (blinks for one minute, then stays on). All of the sudden, the light has stopped coming on. Any explanation for what caused this?

    Perhaps the bulb/LED is bad.

Can’t be that. It lights up when I start the truck up, then just turns back off.

Drive for 40 mins continuously it will come back on.

What do you want to know? The light didnt burn out, that would cause another light to trigger. The fault is still there, it didnt fix itself.

Stupid question but where do you live? Cold weather can cause the psi in the tires to set off the tpms sensors, then warmer weather might being it back up. Happens the mine all the time.

i live in ontario but its been up to +5 celsius this weekend. Never seemed to happen in the -20 celsius weather so i dont think that would be the cause.

That would only matter if he actually had sensors.

Most likely you’ve parked somewhere close enough to your factory sensors.

    Still thinking about it.
Do you mean that you have aftermarket wheels and don't have the sensors?

Okay then. I don't know. I was going to suggest what crash said about warmer weather fixing the problem but that doesn't matter if you don't have the sensors.

Where are your original wheels? You'd be surprised the range your truck will pick up the signal.

It won’t read from another vehicle but will occasionally read from your factory wheels if they happen to be in range.

Another light to trigger? Like what? There's no way the ECU knows there's a bad bulb, is there?

Yes, it's why you read that the traction/abs etc lights all come on over a check engine light.

They all tattle on each other. This is to prevent the old method of bulb removal/disabling.

So the TPMS sensors aren't installed.

You do know they are powered by batteries.
    And they send a signal.
And the further they are from the receiver the more power they draw...
    The TPMS batteries are dead

That's not the case at all. If there's a CEL that pertains to abs trac etc, it'll illuminate those to let you know they're off. IE: wheel speed sensor is bad, illuminate CEL, shut off Trac and abs because the ECU needs those inputs to determine wheel slip, lockup etc. ECU has no way to tell a bulb is burned out haha.

You are incorrect, the cluster is an ECU that self diagnoses.

    I'll explain it.

Lets say a gas cap is loose, p0455 etc will trigger due to a evap leak. The check engine light comes on.

The Traction or ABS light will come on as well, and the code will be ECM malfunction detected.

The entire CANBUS system checks on each other. This is to prevent fraud, and to alert the driver.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=tac...CTQIHa5qB9AQrQIoBDAAegQIARAP&biw=2560&bih=937

Click that and tell me that they all have an engine and abs issue.

Some cars will trigger far more lights than just 2 or 3. Customers will tow it over a loose gas cap because of this.

There is no telltale to indicate bulb failure but there is a way the driver is alerted to bulb failure everytime the key is cycled. The system does a system check turning on all the bulbs and gauge travel check that an observant driver can then tell that an indicator is not functioning. This has been common in vehicles for years.
