TPMS Not Syncing After Tire Rotatuon

Hey all, have a quick question for you guys. So when I got my Toyo AT3’s and wheels I had them install new tpms sensors in the new wheels, because I wanted to sell the old wheels and tires together. So once they programmed the new sensors they’ve been great for the past 5000 miles. Then I rotated the tires when I did my oil change, and now the sensors aren’t reading/syncing. And to clarify, I am aware of the TPMS set button. With the truck running on park I press and held the button for a few seconds. TPMS light flashed 3 times. Then continued to drive some and nothing. Wondering if I have to drive further. Anyways, am I missing anything in the re-syncing procedure after rotating? Thanks,

Yes, sometimes it take pretty long drive for them to read.

 

Since I do a 5 tire rotation, I just have Discount relearn each tire/TPMS location for the 4 tires rolling.

Then when I get home, I toss the spare in the garage and go for a spin. Sometimes it takes 5 miles, sometimes 20 miles. Eventually all is sync'd and I can put my spare back up under the truck for another 5k miles.

 

Try the button with the truck on but not running. Then be patient and drive.

If after a long time nothing comes back the locating functionality is likely broken and you can choose to replace them or manually program their new locations.

 

Thanks for the input. By saying you’re having discount reprogram them, are you meaning that you have to get them to reprogram each tire’s new location after you rotate? Like your tpms button in your truck doesn’t fix it?

 

I’ll have to try the button again and drive a good bit and be patient. I think I remember the sensors taking a good while to register when I first got them put on. Hopefully no big deal here.

 

Are you not seeing the TPMS window in the dash showing 4 psi values?
When I rotate all four wheels my truck sees all four sensors and shows PSI on the dash.

Please read the correct procedure in the OM, after that procedure it does take some time for the truck to see the

 

Make sure the engine is not running when pressing the reset button.
Assuming your sensors did not die.. After reset, sensors are in Judging state. Sensors position should be determined within 10-20 miles of variable speed driving.

 

This doesn’t necessarily address your initial question but this one^:
3rd gens can only store 4 sensor IDs. The guy you quoted does a 5 tire rotation, so each time he rotates he has to remove the ID of the tire becoming his new spare from the ecu and add the ID of the tire coming out of spare.
The TPMs button under the dash simply learns location. Works for 4 tires but not 5

 

Thanks for clarifying. Would you happen to know if our trucks’ spares come with a tpms sensor in there from the factory? Because if not then that shouldn’t be an issue here because I didn’t have them put a sensor in the spare tire, to my knowledge at least. That tire is stock size and I have 33s” anyway, so not like I’d use it unless if there’s an extreme emergency, but in the front end only.

 

None in spare, system only supports 4 sensors.

Yea the spare definitely isn’t part of your problem. I already have this page uploaded to Imgur from a previous comment, so I’ll just add it here too.

I’d try everything step by step again and try and find a neighborhood to scoot around in to maintain 25mph.

 

Although you probably won't have too much of an issue if you ran your stock sized spare with your 33s, I personally wouldn't run it on the rear or while in 4wd as a mix.

I would however suggest looking into 33" tire for your spare at some point.

I dropped the dime upfront for 5 matching tires, wheels, w/TPMS so I could maximise my tire life by rotating in a 5th tire. And of course, this spare makes no difference to the truck when in use.
