AFAIK, you need special software to interact with stuff outside of the normal OBDII engine things. I've needed to find someone with a Tech II for my GM vehicles for certain functions. Toyota has something similar for TPMS, seat belt chimes etc...

I borrowed this tool, which does all of the above - took me about 30 minutes to figure it out & get two replacement TPMS sensors "learned" by the truck (the originals were damaged by a tire shop when mounting new tires)

Autel TS601 TPMS Relearn, Programming and Coding Tool

Very simple to use, and capable of reading, cloning, programming, learning, copying the sensor ID's, and communicating them to the truck's ECU. Downside - it retails at $699.00 on Amazon. Well worth it to a tire shop, but not at all practical for individuals.

One more bit of good news (as in BAD news)... all of these sensors run on batteries. The batteries are internal to the sensor, and cannot be replaced or recharged. When they go dead, the sensor becomes inoperative, and will need to be replaced. I've heard that this happens every 3 years or so. Then you get to go through the entire cloning/relearning routine again.

IF you ever get the chance, write down your sensor ID #'s and put them in a safe place. That way, when it DOES come time to change them, you can get the EZ type, and program them with the existing ID's, and not have to have your ECU relearn new ones. MUCH simpler/cheaper.

I'll vote no, but hope for your sake someone proves me wrong.

I've never heard of a multi-memory system. Only that you have to wipe the old and add the new.

I'm more interested in learning how to properly disable it completely. I'm willing to be responsible for checking my own pressures.

I recently used the toyota techstream software and looked at my '15 taco ecu it only could hold 5 tpms id's (4 tires + spare). I doubt the 2012 would be different.

Thread trace complete. Good thread. I'm about to get some new tars and I was considering replacing the sensors as they are now (6) yars old but still working. I have no idea how much battery is left in each sensor. I am considering buying new sensors from Toyota dealer for $59 each. I HATE that I have to buy new sensors to keep the system operable...

If I get new factory sensors, my only option would be to have someone with Tech-stream or other diagnostic device reprogram the TPMS ECU? Correct?

Anyone with the proper encoder can do it...it's a little tricky, but not really difficult.

And Rob - I don't believe any of the Taco's will hold more than one set of S/N's at one time. A (relatively) cheap TPMS programmer would be your best bet... if you have some friends who also switch tires, perhaps you could all go in on one together...

    Greetings Tacoma owners,
I just purchased my first vehicle with TPMS. 2015 Tacoma TRD, 4x4 Access cab,4.0 liter, automatic. Has anyone had experience using the ATEQ QuickSet? So far ATEQ seems like a practical solution? I am also considering the "pressure vessel" idea, if I can't find a convenient and economical solution to keep the system operational. I change between snow flake stamped dedicated winter tires, to highway tread tires, several times during winter depending on snow conditions.
    Thanks,Solo

Hi Bill, Post# 181 doesn't bode well for the ATEQ Quickset TPMS reset tool. I was hoping that someone would see my post and add a positive report. The pressure canister is looking pretty good right now.

I recently purchased the Quickset tool. It worked well, and as described. I don't have anything negative to say about it. Simple and it works. FWIW I have two sets of TOYOTA TPMS sensors. I am sure it works fine for aftermarket ones also.

Hi Foihdzas, I appreciate the positive feed back on the Quickset tool. How did you address the TPMS "ID not compatible" issue you had in post #181? What is FWIW? I'm quite ancient and not a master of the computer so on a scale of #1 (very easy) to #10 (very difficult), how would you rate the ease of operation for the Quickset tool?
    Thanks! Solo

My pleasure! FWIW means *For what it's worth*.... and if you are ever curious about an acronym like IMO (in my opinion) ect... just google the letters, and you should be able to find it (I too can't figure them all out)

So, on a 1-10... It was about a 5. The ID not compatible issue was solved by getting new TPM's. I bought the TPMS's used from someone on the forum, and he said they were working. But I could not get them to work. So, I went to Toyota and the parts guy had a used set off of a 2015 for $100. They worked the first time. So I think there was something funky with the TPM's

Programming was easy. Plug it in to the computer and add your vehicle. Take to vehicle, press summer button and download your current ID's stored in the ECU. Take to computer and add your new ID's in the 'Winter' portion of the program. take to vehicle and press winter button. Voila!

The instructions are very vague in the manual, slightly more detailed than what I just wrote. But there is only one way to do it. All in all, I'd say its a great tool.

I bought a used set of wheels and tires from a forum member that has new sensors installed from tire rack. I live in a small town and the local tire guys do not have the tools to add my new sensors. Any suggestions other than purchasing the reset tool? I still have the factory wheels on as of now. TIA.
