Let me start with, I am not a total idiot. I have a '17 Tacoma SR 4x4 that I bought back in the winter, and I cannot get the TPMS to reset to save my life. I have read the manual and thought that I was following it's instructions. I have looked on YouTube and Google and not found any help. What do I have to do to make that light go away? I do not think that I have a smart key system or the multi function display.

Tacospike. Thanks for the photo! Unfortunately, I know where the button is but the procedure for doing it seems to be beyond me.

TPMS light came on (tires were low, so I inflated all tires to 29PSI as per door sticker)
Tried TPMS reset (several times following manual procedure)
    Light stayed on

Was going for short drive so I tried again with a change
    Had truck running
    Reset TPMS
Drove truck about 10 minutes at city speeds c/w stops at traffic lights
Shut truck off to pick up my parcel
    Came out started truck
    Light went out

Sorry didn't notice if light had gone out while driving

    Hopefully this may help

was the light already on when you bought it? maybe your wheels do not have the sensor inside of them?

when I replaced my steelies for the SR5 wheels, I couldn't switch over the TPMS, so I just left it. after about 1.5 weeks of driving, the light turned on. maybe you don't have any sensors if you switched wheels?

I have changed nothing. Two weeks into owning it I was driving down the road and it came on. It has been on continuously since then.

May be a battery in one.
Most tire places will reset with the gadget if you don’t own one.
Dealer can as well if your getting another service.
Some errors are not just psi related.

    OEM wheels?
    Aftermarket wheels?

A good tire shop will have a sensor scanner that reads the sensor ID number, battery voltage, psi, etc, and if you have at least one dead battery in one sensor that will cause the dash light to be on.

Have you checked the spare tire? Your truck is at 5 years old, so not knowing what brand sensors are in there it could also be battery life (or lack there of). 10 years is the relative norm of battery life for sensors.

3rd Gen Tacoma TPMS ECU/PCM cannot read/see be programmed with a 5th sensor. If there is a 5th sensor it will cause the system to "crash" and the dash light comes on.

I finally after several years had my TPMS units done at Costco with a new set of tires. Took them 3 tries to get all (5) TPMS to reset. Last attempt Costco replaced all 5 sensors and then reset. (The black electrical tape I had over the warning icon on at the plastic speedo cover had been there so long it etched the plastic!)

I bet you have a dead sensor non-serviceable battery.

This is a 3rd Gen Tacoma forum. 3rd Gen Tacomas TPMS system only sees/reads 4 sensors.

Early 2nd Gen Tacoma does have a TPMS system that sees/reads 5 sensors programmed into the ECM/PCM.
