I have a 2013 Tacoma. I checked the spare tire and I don't believe that it has a TPMS. Pic is attached for verification.

    My question......
The previous owner removed all of the TPMS sensors long before I bought the truck. The low pressure light is on and I want to install TPMS sensors so that the light goes out and it becomes functional.

I have found some sensors online at Amazon called MORESENSOR 315MHz Tire Sensors in a 4 pack for 49.99. If I get my local mechanic to install them, is he able to program them without me going to the dealership?

Yes, a tire shop should be able to program them for you. I just got some new ones for my 2008 and my friend who owns the tire shop programmed them for me. The spare tire should have one to and the one in your picture doesn’t seem to have it.

Thanks, I'll go ahead and order them. I'm tired of seeing the low pressure icon warning on the dash!

Not just any 315mhz sensor will work. You can use either OEM p/n 42607-04010 sensors or aftermarket sensors that are compatible with the same p/n I just provided.

The 42607-04010 sensors are installed with a nut and washer but Toyota moved over to snap-in rubber stem sensors a few years later in production.

The 2nd gen Tacoma never got TPMS in the spare.

The Tacoma computer may or may not even have 5 storage values for 5 TPMS values like some other other Toyota models. If not 5, it will only have 4 for the 4 ground tire and wheel assemblies.

Corrrect, the spare has no sensor. Just go to Discount Tire & get their own sensors installed.

They'll be programmed correctly & you'll be good to go (or any tire place).

Only if he has the programming tool.

Most tire shops do these days, but not all mechanics. Just depends on how much tire work they do I suppose.

Any idea how long until you need tires? When you do sensors with new tires, there should be little to no labor costs. Doing them on existing tires they may want to charge you a dismount/remount cost.

Be sure to ask the shop first, both about install costs and programming. It may be worth it to put black tape over the light till you need tires.

Not on his '13. That ended sometime in '09 model year.

You are correct. I guess that change happened before the bulk of the Tacoma production shifted to TMMTX from NUMMI. (I work at TMMTX).

    It came with 4.

Why don't you have them now?

Most tire shops will charge about $10-$15 per tire to install and program them. They typically last 7-10 years but I've started replacing mine with every other set of tires which works out to about 6-7 years. I've never been charged anything to install them when buying new tires. I order mine from Amazon and take them to the tire shop with me when buying tires.

Your 2013 doesn't have one in the spare. My 2007 does, but I think they stopped doing that in 2008 or 2009.

Post a pic of your valve stems

Guessing you either have a working system or a disabled system, although I don't think '12s were easy to disable.

Some of the Canadian and some other export market Tacomas didn't have TPMS sensors. Not sure why. I forgot about this until Pjerdan mentioned his doesn't have them.

TMMTX built a few tire & wheel assemblies this way for Canada only.
