I have no tpms sensprs on my dedicated winter rims and tires. After swapping my summer rims and tires back the shop informed me my rear passenger tpms is not waking up and appears dead. I returned today to get a new tpms sensor. They said the first one they installed didnt work so they redid it. The error light on the dash is gone. It is still not reading any of them. I returned again and they reflashed them. They still dont work. They guy shrugged...no clue. I left.
Thoughts ? I would like to get this fixed asap.

They appear like a few dots or a a dash. No numbers.

How far did you drive after leaving the shop. It took me a few miles to register the sensors and the numbers to show on the dash

rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.
I haven't been able to reset the oem wheels and tires since I took off the snows a month ago. I've tried "the procedure" a 100 times.

The trouble shooting guide in the owners manual says...keep trying. I'm trying to care , can't seem to even do that ;-)

I am wondering if it is the antenna then? Maybe time for a dealer to scan the system if that is not where you went prior. It could be numerous things. I am guessing it was tech error over the antenna, but never know.

Give it a few days. I got new sensors installed and the tpm system was reprogrammed with the new sensor IDs, light went off but it took about 4 days (80-100ish miles I'm guessing) to show pressures instead of the dashed lines. Think it had something to do with the computer determining sensor locations taking some mileage.

Good evening TW....I have a question for ya...I bought a set of TRD Pro wheels and tires with TPM sensors off a guy. My truck apparently doesn’t recognize them. I tried the reset process with the button under the steering wheel to no avail..... I emailed the salesman that I bought the truck from about it. He talked to the service dept guy and told me that they have to re-program the sensors. Takes an hour to do.... a little over a hundred bucks. Seems a little pricey....I read on the internet somewhere, to deflate the tires and try the reset process again. I’ll try that. If that doesn’t work, I’ll take the battery cable off and see if that resets it. Does anyone have a hack, or know another way to do this? Thanks in advance

To program new sensors, you will need to get the sensor ID's. Only way to do that is to put eyes on them, unfortunately.

If they are not OEM they may not work. Tacos use next Gen hex codes.

You run all winter without worrying about the light on your dash... and now you are worried about the light on your dash during the summer?

    Why?

    My light is easily ignored.

They should be OEM. Thanks for the help, looks like like I’ll be paying to have them reprogrammed lol

My light is easily ignored. The TPMS is probably the most ill thought out part on a Taco, IMO.

None of that will work, the tpm system is looking for sensors that are not there. If it could find new sensors without being programmed with the new sensors IDs then your vehicle would constantly be confused while driving around other vehicles or parked near vehicles with tpm systems. The button on the lower dash is for setting the pressure threshold or re establishing connection with sensors that are already programmed.

They can be read with a tpms scanner/programmer that most tire shops should have. Discount reprogrammed mine in a couple minutes. Also, the documentation with the sensors should have that info and places that order/sell them often record that info on the invoice or receipt.

Ah, you're correct. It's the truck that cannot "scan".
Would be nice if Techstream had that functionality.

True, but because he bought it from a private seller, I don't imagine the previous owner had that info on hand.

I think techstream can show currently programmed sensor IDs but I don't think the truck has the necessary hardware to scan for any unprogrammed sensors within range. The scanner tools that the tire shops use require it to be right next to the sensor so they hold it against the valve stem area of the tire/wheel to find the sensor ID.

Yeah, I mentioned it mostly for general knowledge in case anyone else in the future is trying to figure out how to get that sensor info.

Is this swapping tires on and off the same wheel if so they broke a tpms and are afraid to admit it.

Seems pretty clear in the op, at least as I understood it.

Read this again your right i may have had a beer or two too many makes perfect sense. OP and others who responded was work done at a Toyota dealer or just an everyday auto shop. Because they’ll break sensors not say shit and have them replace with an aftermarket sensor that supposedly is the same as oem. But won’t read air pressure or turn your light tps light off.

In my case, It is the OEM wheel Tire TPMS senders. All I did was put on winter wheels and tires without registration of the fitted TPMS senders. Then the original wheel, tire and TPMS units were reinstalled.

    Not possibility of damage.

Just doesn't work. So I'll wait till the required first dealer visit... maybe they can get it to work.

Meantime.. It's just a light. I run Audis, the light are always on ;-)
