I got some Method 703s for my truck and took them to get mounted and balanced on new tires today. The shop called me and said that the sensors are too tall on the inside and they couldn’t get the tires over them without breaking the sensors. I was told that the factory sensors should work with these wheels. Has anyone else had to change out TPMS sensors when switching to aftermarket wheels?

Just had some Motegi MR150's installed this week. The site "said" the OEM TMPS sensors would work. So day of install I asked again to be sure they were just going to move them to the new wheels, the counter tech guy said no problem. And no issues thus far.

So short answer it worked for my wheels.

Thanks. I’m going to take the truck back to the shop I work at (we can’t do alignments which I why I brought it to a different shop) and see if I can get them to work. I’m going to pop the outside bead off and try to get the sensors in that way.

I was able to get the factory sensors in the new wheels. They came off of stock alloy OF wheels. It was a trick to get the beads to seat at first but all sensors reading good now.

Dragging up this thread. I am looking to add a second set of factory TPMS sensors to my 703's to hopefully keep from having to switch sensors as I am keeping my stock wheels for winter use. Anyone have issues with programming a second set of sensors? IE need a tool to do this? I have installed aftermarket and cloned them to old factory TPMS but have never tried 2 full sets of factory sensors.

Easiest way is to get techstream and you can program the TPMS ECU on your own.

If memory serves factory tpms all have unique codes. I like your idea of cloning aftermarket.

I agree with this also. I am on the fence about getting techstream. Not sure which level I would want and if I truly need it on a brand new truck other than coding the TPMS ECU for a set of wheels. That being said the Technician in me wants to have good diagnostics for when I am in the middle of nowhere which I am at least a few times a year.

It's free. Well sort of. There is no doubt it probably shouldn't be as available as it is and I have never understood why Toyota hasn't blocked the distribution of it, but it is out there. Check out @tonered He has links in his signature.
