I have a quick question for anyone that has gone through this or knows the answer. I have a 2019 TRDOR with the standard alloy wheels. I recently bought a brand new set of TRD Pro rims and tires that the guy pulled off his 2022 TRDOR SX. I installed them myself and thought I could just program the new TPMS sensors in the TRD Pro wheels to work on my truck. I have a Quickset X programming tool but it won’t read the sensors

I think there was a frequency (or whatever they use) change in the later years, but not sure.

Yea I get the frequency change but my programmer is scanning the TPMS. Or rather triggering it. I don’t know

make sure the guy didnt pull the tpms sensors, lots do, when they sell wheels. the autel tpms programmer reads the toyota sensors easily. I swap from stock sport wheels, to trd sema wheels, winter/summer, and back. both sets of wheels have toyota sensors. easy peasy. Ski

I don’t think he did. He literally drove the truck home and a few days later had a lift and new rims and tires done. When I asked him he said he didn’t have tpms on his 2022 truck. They all have it. Maybe it’s my tool. Although it’s a high end tool

Pretty easy to tell if they are TPMS as Toyota uses an aluminum valve stem.

isnt more than a scanner needed to program the TPMS sensors to the control unit?

I have a programmer that can then take the info from the new sensors and then I transfer via OBDII

guessing the lift tire place either installed new tpms in his new set up, (and you scanner isnt working on the ones in the wheels you bought) or took out the factory tpms and put them in the new wheels.

it is mandated in the us for tpms in new vehicles since 2008. his 22 has/had them. otherwise he would have a light. guessing they pulled "your" sensors. like I said, A LOT of sellers do this. I think it is stupid they do. yes, I know you need sensors but, either sell the wheels and tires separately without them, or disclose it to the buyer upfront, and dont remount the tires until the sensors are in. just making a prospective buyer jump through more hoops. I’m starting to think that’s the case. The valve stems aren’t stamped TPMS and my light is not on. My quickset x programmer should definitely work if there were some in there

Sounds a add bout right because those rims came from the dealer on his truck so they definitely had the sensors

Sometime in 2020 I believe Toyota changed the valve stems on their TPMS to the new rubber style stem. Supposedly more durable, since they now flex. They look exactly like regular rubber valve stems.

I know my 2023 has the new rubber stem TPMS.

If you have a high end tool it should be able to test the sensor to see if it’s transmitting whether it’s programmed to your truck or not. If it doesn’t have this feature any tire shop including Walmart has to ability to quickly test and see if there are sensors and if they are working. Or you could just have your old ones that are already programmed from your old tires switched over for probably under 100 bucks.

Woah, I did not know this. Any chance anyone knows the part number? DT disappeared my programmable TPMS on my summers so I’m left hunting for new TPMS for them.

How do people feel about cloneable sensors vs OEM? I had the cloneable ones before but they were cloned to my spare and that was really annoying to deal with.

I get that people prefer the OEM sensors vs aftermarket ones. I almost bought the clonable Autel ones. But, I figured I might still have to have to truck learn the new sensors/positions either way in case the shop couldn’t figure it out. So, I got a set from TPMSdirect instead and saved a few bucks. Everything works fine, and I still had to program the sensors to truck.

I have been using rubber stem Autel MX315 clone sensors on two different TRD wheels for years with no problems. No programming the truck with different sensor ID# anymore.
