    So I got my hands on a scan tool and it threw up a p0510 code indicating Closed Throttle Position Switch.

    the TPS idles at around 19.3% & 11k rpm, which seems high for the TPS - what should be my next steps?

    does the scan tool you got hold of have the ability to show live data ?

    find the TPS percentage and see where it’s at.

    run the truck and watch the TPS percentage, should be around 9-11% @idle

    if you bent the tangs on the throttle shaft you may need to straighten those to get an accurate reading

    my ’97 is not adjustable by design, but there is a slight ability to turn it in the screws that gives just a small amount of adjustment.

    Are there any symptoms related to a P0510 code? My 95 Tacoma seems to drive fine, as long as I drive normally. If I start pressing the gas pedal further, like trying to pass someone, it starts hesitating and bucks a little.

    I connected the reader to it earlier and it shows only the P0510 code. Live data shows 13.3% at idle.

    I realize this is an older thread, but it's the first one that popped up when I searched the code.

    Follow up question;

    If this sensor is not adjustable and I haven't moved it (considering I haven't even located it yet) does this mean the sensor is bad, failing, or possibly loose?

    If your scan tool will read the sweep of the sensor in a graph use that and watch carefully. It took several times before I was able to catch the drop out on start up. And then be able to duplicate it.

    I do recommend when replacing using a dealer part, it’s more expensive but your likely hood of defects is lower.
