My TPS numbers seem to be off, and I'm wondering if this is normal?

I checked my tire pressure with 2 gauges and they read 31 PSI. TPS seems to think my tires are at 25-26 PSI...

I'm sure it's normal. Mine tend to hover about 4-5 psi lower than what's shown when i test them with a gauge.

I always use a known quality gauge every fill up and there’s is definitely a difference between the TPMS and the gauge. I’ve tested my gauge against two others and they are consistent so I know the TPMS is a little off.

I just consider the TPMS as my “hey, you got a tire going down”. It will yell at you when it notices a wide difference between the tires and will tell you which ones got a nail, screw, or whatever

Yeah... I'll 2nd what everyone else has said: my tire pressure sensors are always lower than all of my pressure gauges. Must be the design...

My TPMS displays accurate numbers. Whats displayed on my cluster always is within 1 psi of an actual gauge on the tire.

I use a digital guage, and my TPMS reads just 1 PSI off, cold. Guage says 35, TPMS says 34.

    All 4 are the same.

My TPMS seems to be about 4 lbs low on every tire, against my gauge.

The TPMS sensors are calibrated for a certain elevation, sea level possibly. So the higher the elevation, the farther off the sensors will be from the real gage pressure.

Mine seem to be accurate (within 1 lb). I'm at approx 50 feet elevation above sea level.

Off topic a little, on my 16 when I swapped my in the winter summer change the steelies with tpms to my rims w/o parked in the garage by tires. I could drive 10 miles to work and back and it would never show low tires pressure unless it was 30 miles + 1 way at highway speeds park in garage next morning off. This was on a SR. The only time it worked correctly was I picked up a nail in the winter. My SR doesn't read actual pressure per wheel just if in range set.

I am at 50 ft above sea level and mine read about 4 lbs low. Just a data point. I guess I can go buy another gauge and check that.

I doubt TMPS is going to be as accurate as a good quality gauge measured at the tire stem, but should be within one, at most two lbs. Mine are usually right on. I think the altitude theory may affect this but when you think about it, it should equally affect either measurement system. Unless being inside the tire reacts differently to atmospheric pressure than a gauge at the tip of the valve stem outside the tire.. Donno :notsure:

Mine is within 1 psi of the handheld gauge as well. Using a 6 year old JACO 0-60 psi elite.

The shop air compressor says 40 psi, my cheap oreillys tire pressure gauge says 40 psi, my cheap portable tire inflator from oreillys says 55 psi but it does it’s job very well. I do the “look at each tire before a long trip” before a drive since it does not display it on the little screen.
