My “trac off” light came on today and has continued to come on. It’s on when I start and stays lit until I hit 30 mph and then it goes off then come again when I reach 30mph again. Has anyone else had this problem? It’s in a 2017 Tacoma sr5 4x4

Are you in 4Hi? That sounds normal for 4Hi.

No this is In 2hi, although about two nights ago I did use my 4wd, and then put it back into 2hi, my fiancé asked if it was still in because she thought it was but to me it was driving like 2 instead of pulling like 4

    So it's speed dependent?

Suggests you've perhaps got a sensor problem somewhere. You could certainly go have someone at a parts store hook a code reader to your truck. See if there's a code showing up to point you in the right direction.

I have a Check Engine Light and Trac Off light all the time. But that's because my front catalytic converters are missing.

Yeah I do have a check engine also, but once over 30 the TRAC OFF goes out and check engine still stays on

Is the 4x indicator lit? Put it back in 4Hi momentarily and the indicator should come on. Then put it back in 2Hi and the 4x indicator should go off.

Also kyitty, I hooked up my code scanner but it’s about 3-4 years old and was only giving me a code for camshaft sensor a but it also gives me the same code in my 96 Yukon as well

I think a couple of pics got lost but the first one doesn't look right to me. Some checking with a proper obd scanner might be interesting but a trip to the dealer might be quicker.

Until you can read the codes, you may want to check the gas cap. Check engine with intermittent Trac Off light is a symptom of the gas cap not on correctly.

I too have my trac off light on constantly that is NOT speed dependent. However, my CEL is not on. I hit the button for trac off but it doesn’t turn the light off. Like it’s always off now.

Anyways, anyone have a physical solution to getting the trac off light to go away? Is it a faulty sensor, a loose wire? Any help would be appreciated

I know this is probably a stab in the dark since it's an old post, but I JUST bought my '17, on Friday and it's doing exactly what you're describing. including the 30mph thing. Did you ever find a solution?

Change the camshaft sensor, it was a problem in your year of truck, same symptoms.

I'm also having this exact problem. But, from time to time, with both trac off and engine light illuminated, I get a Brake Override Malfunction on my display. And it puts the truck in Limp Mode. All I have to do is pull the positive on the battery for a minute, put it back on, and the lights stay off and I can drive normally. It's always a guess when it will happen again. Could be 2 miles, or 200 miles. I've found that when this happens, I can bump the truck into neutral while braking. Then when it's time to roll, I slide it back into Drive. It keeps the Malfunction light off by doing that. But the Trac Off and Engine light stay on. Every time I get ready to troubleshoot the solenoid for Bank 2 Cam Timing Retarded, The light turns off and I can't make it come on. Very intermittent.
