Posted this in the yellow wire mod thread, but not getting any responses. I actually implemented a modified version of the yellow wire mod that doesn't cause the 4lo light to blink. I verified with Techstream that the Trac actuator is turning on in 4lo during a scenario with wheelspin. I also see the swerving car light up in 4lo when wheelspin occurs.

Question is how different is Atrac vs Trac. We tried a steep loose hill climb the other day. Had 4 trucks go up the same climb one 2005 TRD OR 2nd Gen with rear locker, one 100 series cruiser with Atrac, and newer 4th gen 4-runner with Atrac. I was the only one that had issues getting up the hill. Obviously the locked TRD OR shouldn't have a problem, but I was under the impression the yellow wire mod should be similar to atrac. Obviously not the case as I had to rock back and forth multiple times to make it up. Other literally walked right up it. We all had newer AT tires, I have BFG ko2s. Understand I don't have the upgraded brake booster that allows Atrac to fire constantly but has anyone run head to head with a truck that has Atrac vs a truck that has done the yellow wire mod.

Trac + yellow wire mod is not equal to ATRAC.

Trac is a modest LSD simulation using the ABS, meaning notable wheel spin is allowed before the ABS tries to intervene to slow the spinning wheel. ATRAC is an aggressive locker simulation using ABS, if the left and right wheels are not turning at the same speed the system steps in to make the wheels turn at the same speed. While the yellow wire mod for Trac does improve off road performance, it is not comparable to ATRAC in terms of capability.

Did you deflate your tires before the climb?
